That's my point . . . and you'd be surprised how much "underground" is not really separate. It actually is intertwined in that a lot of it is laundered thru legit financial institutions without the financial institutions actually being aware of it.

If cash were to disappear tomorrow, the economy would collapse. It's not until it ceases to exist would we be aware of just how much the "underground" actually is the basis and support of our economy.

(Not to mention secret government transactions between governments and other governments - and/or governments and third parties the government wants no traceable record of affiliation with. If you're doing business with folks you shouldn't be doing business with and you want no record of it, then it's best to pay cash, especially when you're the government and you can print as much money as you want. )

+1 for all of you. Up here in the north country we are getting these self check out lanes at the grocery stores. Simple really. So why do they have someone standing there asking if you need help? If you gonna ask, why dont you just ring it up, like every other check out lane.

You know I use the self check out when it will really save me time with one or two items but the principle ticks me off....

I come in to your store, shop, and pay for your goods and now I've got to check myself out and bag my own stuff? Nah.....you tag and bag em....dangit.
