Basically what LT said..It is funny, all summer you will see signs around town here at the shore that say "Shoobie go home" Its prettty funny

My grandfather told me the story goes like this....years ago, all the out of towners ( people from Philly ) would come to the shore for the weekend to get away. Being that not many people had money back then, they packed all their supplies for the weekend in shoe boxes...Hence the name "Shoobie" (shoebie) It stuck for all these years and will stay for many more to come. I'm sure back then it was more of a joke. Anymore, it's not good to be called one, as everyone knows...being a Shoobie, is not a good thing.
