Oh No! (Mountaineer02V8)

It looks like the changes on this site now also include a "spell check" feature.

He11 -- half the fun of the GD forum was coming on here everyday and seeing how "Mountaineer02V8" was going to butcher the English language!

Well, he's safe for the moment.

None of the features seem to be working. Can't insert a quote, or insert a pic. Click on any of the icons above the enter text field and nothing happens.

I wonder if TPTB are aware of that.

Yes, and Mac OSX has spell check built into the OS and it works in everything. And in OSX Tiger (10.4) you can highlight a word in anything and link directly to the dictionary (also built into the OS). It's funny . . . go to Microsoft's Vista page and read what it will be, and it is essentially Mac OSX. Vista, two years overdue and when it comes out OSX will be in it's 5th or 6th generation.

Face it. Macs just work, and their OS is far better than Windows.

By the way, cleared cash and all works (except the Spell Check feature. The little icon above the text field has a red X thru it). But I don't care though . . . because I have OSX !!!!

actually to be honest I'm looking at picking up an inexpensive Mac to learn it. I hate only knowing PCs very limiting in my line of work.

Vader-

If your just looking to learn the OS inside and out, then get a Mac Mini.

It's 499 and will work with any monitor, mouse, and keyboard you've got.

Not great for doing intense photoshop or Final Cut Pro or 3D work, but for what you wnat it will more than suffice. Comes with the latest OS, so you'll be good to go.

You can learn about it here:

Many Thanks I had no idea...I've been watching local paper adds...

Think I'll go out and pick it up...

Odd configuration....

If you get the 499 model it doesnt include bluetooth and wireless network but you can add for 100 more. If you get the 599 model it includes the wireless with a faster processor and larger hard drive...strange....

It says you cant add wireless later it must be done by Apple (dont like that)

Again thanks for the link

You should go to the Apple Store. That way they will have every Mac under the sun all with various programs so you can play to your heart's content.

If you know the inner workings of Unix then you will be very home with OSX, especially with scripting.

I think the closest Apple store to you is at the Towson Town Center.

They have a bunch of Apple Shiney Happy People available to answer any questions. Go to the Genius Bar to talk the real dirt with experts.

For the time being, I would stay away form the new Intel Chipped iMacs, especially if you plan on doing any heavy graphics type stuff. None of the Adobe Programs are out in the Universal Binarys yet, so non native programs for intel will have to run under Rosetta. The Mac Mini is on a G4 (translation . . . slow for processor intensive tasks). If you want a fast machine they will have dual proc 2.3 GHz G5 machines, and I'm sure they will have a Quad 2.5GHz G5 Power Mac. (FAST).

Loads of fun.

I think for my first trip to the dark side I'm looking for something inexpensive...

I dont really have any plans for it other than seeing how the other half (or 1/20th) lives.

Now if I get sucked in and fall in love then I'll get a higher HP system. Cutting my sony digital movies from camcorder to DVD on my XP system is kind of a pain.

I think I might run over there tomorrow or one night this week.

Thx again.

And, while I'm thinking about it,

if you want something more than a Mac Mini but don't want to drop a ton of bucks, you could go this way:

MacConnection is blowing out the remaining G5iMacs. You can get the one with the 20" screen which originally were 2 grand for 1495. Big screen, G5 chip, great price for that machine, and I think they also have a rebate on it.

Best thing about MacConnection, delivered to your door and no sales tax

Oh yeah, it comes with everything you need built in . . . iMovie to make movies from your DV cam, iDvd to make dvds with menus and such, it's all there.

Yes, definately go to the Apple store. The only place where you will be able to see everything, play with everything, and have people who know about Macs at your beck and call.

Ok . . .I'm done.
