Well, I had a second interview today...

Things went well, job sounds great. He said he hopes to have an offer for me before the weekend.

It's almost kinda scarey. I've been where I am for almost 4 years, and just kinda conditioned myself to think I'd never get out or find anything better...

It still just almost sounds to good to be true...

I'll letch'all know how the offer turns out, and what my answer is. From the looks of things now I'll accept, but you never know what will happen, eh...

BTW, I'm dreading tomorrow. In the backup today while upgrading my work PC to Win XP I lost the drawing for the project I've been working on. I was still laying it out, and working out the bugs, so I guess I'll be starting over in the morning... I plan on finishing this project before I leave, should I accept the offer. It's just really a bad time to go though. Everyone is out of town, and our shop will be heading out in the morning. I've been in charge of the shop since Monday, and will be until the boss gets back, but no one knows yet when that will be..

I don't want to burn any bridges, or make any enemies, so trying to make this as smooth as possible...

So, I'll sign off for now...

g'night...

Congrats Closer! Best of luck!

I went through this about 4 months ago with a little company named John Deere... I'm still second guessing myself about turning down that gig...

just think it through...you'll make the right decision.

Just keep in mind that $$$ isn't always the most important thing.

Freedom, flexibility, opportunity to effect other parts of the company, valued input, etc are all important too. If the new job doesn't have some or all of these benefits you should assign them a value and figure out which job really is better. It may be the new high paying job or it may be the old flexible tried and true.

I've turned down jobs offering 10-20k extra a year because the job requirements were too intrusive to my home life and that it more important. Money will come...but you cant get back missed time with kids.

Well, actually both jobs are quite flexible, but the new one will be salary, the old one is hourly...
The new one will be stricly design work, here I do design, purchasing, inventory, shop management, some office management, and just about anything else that needs to be done.
The new job will be 3D design, here it's AutoCAD.

The new job sounds great, I'm just worried the money won't be there. I can handle a small pay cut if I had to, but nothing too substantial...

how much do you like being involved in everything? You may find yourself bored doing just design work when you are use to working on everything

I'll be involved some there too, just not like this. I don't like purchasing/inventory or shop management, so it sounds good to me...

Good luck with your decision. Sounds as if it is a good opportunity for you. Your attitude towards your current employer and burning bridges is admirable, but my advise is to not over do it. Don't get off to a slow start at the new place because you are taking care of the old place. Do what you can but do not over do it. You have to look out for yourself, I learned a long time ago, no one else will. A lot of employers will take advantage of your feelings of guilt when there should be no guilt.
