I don't know how to break it to you computer gurus gently....so I'll just bust it right out...........

Windows XP is Windows 2000!

At its heart, XP is simply Windows 2000 with a new task-based user interface, improved application and hardware compatibility, and other small features.

Windows NT started the family.

Windows 2000 was originally called Windows NT 5.0

Windows XP is officially Windows NT 5.1

Now you know.

Well with that logic than XP is simply Windows NT and Windows 98 is just MS-DOS. Just new GUIs laid over the same but updated kernel.

Yes it is built from the same basic operating system but it is different. Different enough to market seperately.

Now you know too

Well, I guess I spoke too soon. I can't get my Outlook to receive. It will send with no problems, just won't receive, just keeps trying...

Any thoughts? It's Office XP v2002 on Windows XP v2002 w/ SP2, and it has been activated...

True, WIN XP is 2K with a new, "fluffy" (as UC would say) GUI, and a few bells and whistles...but it's still a NEW OS.

Thanks for getting us on track Kool Aid.

That's pretty open ended...does it get an error? Eventually it will time out with an error message. Need more info

Same thing happened to me. I had to reset my computer password with my internet provider.

Got it fixed.

It never timed out, just kept trying, and trying... I let it sit for about 5-10 minutes with nothing...

I entered my user ID wrong. I always forget that when they set up our accounts for some odd reason they added our company initials to the end of everyones user ID. That was strange, because it would send, but not receive...

Oh, well it's working. Everything's back to normal, except I lost some stuff in the backup!!!! and I'm just a little on the VERY PISSED OFF SIDE of things this morning... but I'll make do...
