No medal for Bode Miller

He was the 7th to start in the Downhill. His time puts him in 4th place. Of course he was out late drinking when he should have been sleeping. All mouth and no show. Maybe he will learn from his irresponsiblities for his other races.

What got me was the announcer who basically said, when the other announcer mentioned Bode's late night antics, "Bode knows how to prepare for these races, it doesn't matter what he did." So, I guess getting drunk is now okay for athletes the night before competition. Nice way to represent your country, Bode Miller, you dumbass. Gold, silver, or bronze he was not worthy of.

To top it off, they made a big deal about "new skis" that he opted to use for this race. I think it was the booze, and not the equipment this time.

Guess what, drinking among skiers has been going on for years! When I was in Germany on ski patrol in Garmisch all the world cup teams came there to race. I partied with them (Andy Mills, Phil and Steve Mahre) many nights. ALL the teams partied! This is NOT news, its old school. Hell they even drank in the old movie Downhill racer. You gotta remember that in Europe they start drinking early in age but usually they handle it better.

Shaun White the Flying Tomato overwhelmingly wins gold and what a great winner he is. I wish others had his attitude. He's a great kid to represent the USA.

For the amount of money that is spent on our athletes they should at least have the responsibilty, the discipline and clear mind to represent us in the Olympics. Some athletes think because they represent us they can do as they please. Bode Miller has his own RV, the best equipment in the world and is treated like royalty and then comes off as an ***. We have soldiers dying in a war and the only perks they get is a flak vest. They're more proud of their country than athletes are. They dodge bullets every day. We don't even know their names unless they come home in a box.

Didn't any of you watch 60-minutes? Bode has always been this way and he's won events before while drunk off his rear. Let him be himself.

WAIT a second!

OBVIOUSLY, you don't know what you are talking about.

I can relate to BOTH of your statements. Ski racers and military personnel as a sibbling of ine is currently stationed in QATAR, and I've raced in high school college, coached a high school team and have been a ski instructor for 14 years.

First, I was on the MSU ski team for 4 years, Yes a Big Ten SKi team. This wasn't your typical college drunk party affair, there were 2 junior olympians on my team. One thing you immediately learn about ski racers are that we are extremely superstitious. I wore the same socks and clothing at every race. I still do, and I've been a ski instructor for 14 years. You do NOT change your regimant. If you drink, you conitnue to drink. I'm not justifying it, but that is my experience.

Second, I respect Bode. He doesn't give a crap about the media and the media hates that. He didn't interview with anyone the morning of his race. he didn't come out of his RV that morning for morning inspection, probably to avoid the media. However, you can speculate all you want as to the reason. I say he was memorizing the course, and getting mentally prepared. Why do I say that? Because that is EXACTLY what I used to do!

Third, Because Bode is shunning the media, they are following every lead they can to make it a story. "we heard rumors that he was out last night"

Forth, Changing ski's before a race, I wouldn't have done it, but then again, I'm not an olympic racer. In his after racer interview he mentioned that the skis weren't the issue, and he could have gotten 2nd. Great segway...

Fifth, Jesus Christ... give the guy a break. He came in 4th place! That in itself is an achievement! Are you the type of guy that complains because one of our athletes didn't win a gold, so it was a waste of money? If so, you need to pull your head out of your a$$. You have NEVER been under the amount of stress that BODE is/was under. You've never had billions of people all over the world watching your every step. You've never trained 10 hours a day, every day for years to try to compete and beat the best in the world.

Why am I so passionate about this? Because i LOVE skiing, my roomate at MSU was a in the junior olympics in Spain for archery. He didn't win a gold, was that a waste of time for him to be there? A waste of financial spending? He did earn a silver!

Some peoples kids shouldn't be allowed to play online.

I agree 100%.

And if the athlete is too focused on the even to talk to the media. GOOD!

Menace, you gotta remember that some of these guys here(f150 online) could do far better, and represent the US tons better than the guys we currently have over there in the Olympics......
