NHRA Winternationals this weekend... Woohoo

Well for all you other drag racing fans out there the winter nationals from pomona, CA are on this weekend. Since moving to the south, everything has been focused on the roundy-rounders. They may think they are cool but they can't do 0- 330+ mph in around 4.5 seconds in a quarter mile either, then stop in about a half mile.

Am I the only fan of straight line racing around here?

I used to camp out for the entire week at Brainerd, MN.

It's unbelievable how approachable everyone is in the pits. I've actually been invited over the ropes to look at motors up close, take pics, etc. One year the budweiser team came out to the campgrounds and just sat around and drank with everyone.

One year a supercharger blew and ended up in our campsite (we camped right off the strip by the fencing). About 1/2 an hour later THE DRIVER showed up with another guy on a golf cart to SIGN the supercharger--not take it back. They looked at it and realized there was no information to glean from the part and let me friend keep it.

NHRA has a real good thing going. I wish they could get a little more air time.

at the '85 summernationals in englishtown i had brought a bob glidden t-bird model that i built with me..
the second bob saw it he invited me into his trailer for a show and tell and he autographed the roof of the model...i still have it (7-11 sponsorship back then)...in 85 we also went to the gators in fla..i had lee shepards camaro with me for him to sign...unfortunatly he was killed in a testing crash in texas earlier in the week.. so i found garlits in the pits and donated the model to his museum..its still there and steve collison (national dragster) took a pic of garlits and myself with the model in the pits and printed it in the 'dragster..

NHRA...IHRA it dont matter
if your in the pits then anything goes!

btw...we went to the semi finals in supergas at the '85 summers with the 'hoss

...zap!

Sounds awesome. I've never been to the NHRA races. Just the races at the local 1/8th mile dragway. We get a few Pro Stock cars to come out and show off a little every now and then. I couldn't imagine a top fueler or a funny car up close.

I can't wait for the NHRA season to start. As good as Team Force is, I have to admit that I hit the mute button everytime Force or his employees get airtime. I do like Team Schumacher and Team Kalitta.

NHRA is the best fan sport in america. You can walk right up and chat with drivers and crew chiefs as long as its not sunday.I love it, I try to make at least two events every year. Im liking all the youngsters coming in, branden, forces douhter, and pretty soon my favorite driver Tim Wilkerson son maybe next year.

I love going to the races. I have been to bristol the last 3 years and last year went to memphis. I wish that when they set the schedule that they would think about the weather. Bristol is the last week of april.... in the southeast.... (for all of you not familiar with that area, that means the weather is completely unpredictable). First year it was 90 and sunny (got baked). The next year it rained all day sunday so they ran monday and it was 50 and overcast ( saw a couple 4.48 passes though, which who would have thought at bristol). Memphis on the other hand... well the genious that thought it would be a good idea to sit in the middle of a field, the third week of august, in memphis... well he should have his head examined. It was 114 in the shade and 99% humidity. I felt like I had been par-boiled.

Oh well, love the nitro and tire smoke, what do you do....

I am also a big fan of the outlaw edlebrock series that comes to bowling green once a year. That is some great racing.

Memorial Day weekend ... can't wait!

Four days in the sun watching the NHRA show in Topeka. Go home and watch the NASCAR roundy rounders under the lights from Charlotte on TV. Then fire up the TIVO and watch the open wheelers in Indy.

Oh what a weekend.

He may love it but... I don't know how much it is loving him back. Gotta hate those second round losses. How about robert hight destroying all the bodies and having to go take an old one off a show car for AAA.... that's pretty funny. You'd think Team Force would have plenty of spares.

I also want to say that I think it's funny that it took another Schumacher car to take out the sarge.

That had to sting.....

Wow and how about Greg Anderson. I have this feeling that in a couple years there will be a huge scandle and a rule change because of him. It just doesn't make sense how he can come out and just run 5 hundreths faster than the rest of the field. In pro stock that is an eternity. He has to be doing something maybe not illegal but probably fishy.

Thoughts?

at least there are no team orders. it was good to see David baca and Melanie Troxel go to the final. I didn't care who won.

as for the flopper bodies, they can only fit so many parts in the haulers. you would think 1 spare would be enough for a weekend.

Greg is running great. i herd them say he has won over 50% of the last 69 final rounds.
he is making more power and is definitely on his game. 0.017 reaction time in the final is very close to a red. the summit team must have a very high budget and Greg only gets the best.
I love watching the door slammer because the field is so close and anyone can get in.
now I'm looking forward to when they come to town. I always go to Maple Grove and normally go to Indy. this year i will drive out to English town in June also.

I love the smell of nitro in the morning.

me thinkith greg is bending the rules just a LITTLE....

you'll see

the teardowns will become "more intense"

if N.H.R.A.has the *****...

if he's "clean" then

if not....
