My new chair is here!!! Now I'm happy.

OK, it's not as exciting as Green98's Grape Nuts™ thread, nor as graphic, but I want to share important new too!

My new chair arrived today.

Now, whereas Green 98's butt is spewing, mine is comfortable!

Now, when reading and writing posts here, I will be comfy!

Just wanted to share.

No . . .super comfortable

It's a Herman Miller Aeron. Used to have one in my "office". Could sit in those puppies for 16 hours and never any adverse effects.

you can learn about them here:

Aeron Chair

Loved it so much finally decided to get one for my home "office".

They rock!

Those chairs rock!
They cost an arm and a leg though, don't they?

I stayed at a hotel this week that had one of those chairs at the desk/work area, and I was surprised at how comfortable it was. I am seriously considering getting one for home. How much did it set you back, if you don't mind my asking?

I need to get a new chair. A couple of days ago, mine broke from the pedestal, dumped me like a dump truck. Hit my chin on the credenza. When I came to, I could not believe what had just happened. Need to go shopping for a chair, just hate to mess with it.

Damn. I never realized working at the computer could be so dangerous.

You stayed at a hotel that had a real Herman Miller Aeron? That must have been some hotel. Sure it wasn't a knock-off? There are a lot of chairs that look like it.

The MSRP on a real Herman Miller Aeron is outrageous. They are made to order (although I understand that there are resellers that have ordered a bunch of base models and sell those at well below MSRP) and you can order them with various options.

It is best to get it through an authorized Herman Miller representative. That way it is covered thru warranty, and it's an impressive warranty. A good number of years, that includes replacement, and they send someone out if there are any problems.

The one I ordered for the home is pretty much a basic model and lists for about 1200.00 although I paid nowhere near that. The more options you get in terms of adjustability, the more it costs.

I believe Design Within Reach is an authorized reseller and I think they have them for 899.

Edited: Yes looked quickly, they are authorized and carry the various sizes (A, B, & C) but not sure if they will order them with any various mixtures of options. This page from their site is showing the large chair (size C) here:

Design Within Reach

Still a lot, but when you realize that the knock-offs that use some cheap mesh material and won't last as long and have nowhere near the warranty, are going for 500 or more, it's best to stick with the original and best.

Ther real Aeron comes in three different sizes with a multitude of adjustable features. Check out the Herman Miller site. The Aeron chair alone has pages and pages of information about it.

It will last forever, and is a great chair.

I'm not quite fond of the strap across the middle of the back though...it pushed quite obnoxiously.
The lumbar support is totally adjustable. You can slide it up and down, and even remove it if you like.

The chair can be configured in a great many ways. Lumbar, types of tilt, tension of tilt, adjustable arms, etc, etc. The lumbar is useful if you're in that puppy for hours, but if you are in the mood to not have it sometimes you can slide the entire lumbar support out. It is also reversable for two different degrees of depth as well as height adjustable.

Uhhhh . . . . I wouldn't know. I didn't see it (nor would I, but hey, that's just me, closed minded and all). But your question implies you've seen it. Ewwww. The mention of that , and your mention in past Gen Discussion threads that you wear a camouflage thong (even bigger eeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww) is scaring me Jim. Go shoot that gun that you have in your sig and get your testosterone flowing, will ya? You're worrying me.

$1200 bucks!

Holy crap!
I greatly enjoy the finer things in life but I have my demands.

Where's the cup holder?
Where's the massager?
Where's the Heat?
Where's the mouse built into the arm rest?
Where's the built in laptop table?
Where's the built in coffee tap?
Where the electric motor to power yourself around the office with out getting up?
Where's the built in fridge and microwave?

Alright for only $1200 bucks I could do with out some of those. But the first 5 would have to be there.

Actually, I'm not at all sure it was the real deal -- given the prices you list, I'd bet it was a knock off. It was pretty darn comfortable, though...

Thanks for the info... I plan to look into one of these.
