What the heck
What the heck
Alright, Ive been looking around for a new truck lately. Im looking for a 99-03 F150, 2wd, short box, regular cab, with the 5.4. How many of these things did Ford make??? 2?? My God, I think Ive found one maybe. Ive looked in papers, Autotrader, Ebay, etc. Did Ford just not make many of these, or am I just not looking in the right places? If so, does anyone have any good places to look for vehicles?
Its insane how many of these things you see on the road and for sale, yet there never seem to be many in this configuration. I guess that's how it goes-you can never find what your looking for.

That's the way it goes...
16 years and 8 cars later wanting an automatic for a daily driver before I got this one.
Every time when I'd go to buy all I could find was standards.

The 5.4 engine in the regular cab-short box configuration is a relatively rare bird. Not unheard of -- just rare.
As a point of reference, I pulled out Ford's "Marketing Strategy & Mix Recommendation" for the 2005 model year, and in it they recommend to dealers that "XLT-Standard Cab-Short Box" configured trucks represent 8% of their total inventory mix. Of that number, less than half would probably have the 5.4 engine. So right off the bat you can see that trucks set up in this fashion would likely represent less than 4% of the dealer's total inventory for the year.
That means for every 100 Ford trucks in the XLT trim level that you look at, only about 3 of them would be set up in the configuration you are seeking.

I see a similar thing with my truck. Only about a zillion people around here own an F-150, yet I have seen only one truck similar to mine. The only difference was it was an automatic '99.
Mine's a 2000 F-150 Flareside Regular Cab 4.6L V8 4x4 standard
I swear Ford only made 1 of these things... and they look so damn good too!

I never saw one either, I had to order it and wait. That's probably how all of those were built. I don't know if Ford would even build it on spec because it would be too odd sitting on the lot. Big engine, little cab, little bed.
I've been here seven years, 90,000 members and I can count who has this configuration on two hands.
I also wanted leather and got the Lariat the last year it was offered (97-99).

Of course when I'm counting on two hands, I have to give Neal (the HP freak) a finger.
