Computer people...

I just ripped apart an old computer we had layin around-back from 1998. Im wondering if any of the parts are worth any money....or are they just junk (target practice for me )

I took out a modem, floppy disk drive, cd drive, sound card, some other thing ( I think a joystick was hooked into it), the motherboard I guess (with PII processor)......that stuff.

Worthless I suppose, but if they are worth any beer money, Id like to know.
Thanks

Maybe some of the copper wire might be worth like, 36 cents.
I vote for target practice!

If you plan to build your own, i would save the fans and the case... Other than those...

Shoot the hell out of them. The feeling afterwards will be worth far more than any money you will get out of all that junk.

I'd have to advise against the getting drunk before using firearms. I'll bet your neighbors would too.

Is there any chance it is a Gateway? I could use a power supply for my old Gateway. It took a dump on me a couple years ago and I lost a lot of the kids pictures that were stored on it. That stupid thing seems to have a wiring system that is not compatable with anything on Earth.

The only value that stuff would have is if you were going to build a new machine. You could take some of the old parts and use them. It's value is in you don't have to spend money to buy new parts. If you don't use the cd drive that much and old one will do. You can use the fans, the floppy drive (these haven't changed much since then), and maybe the sound card. Most motherboards come with a soundcard.

If you're looking to make any money off any of it, go ahead and shoot it all up. The entertainment value will far outweigh anything you might make off it. The only other option is to donate it (if it still works) and write it off as $400 or something. That might get you a $100 for it. Then there's issues of wether you had important data on the machine. So, just shoot it.
