Ahhhh; now I see your points...

When I originally wrote this, I had this whole paragraph between the first and second paragraph, talking about my Expedition havign 260 HP, and being equally as heavy as the Escalade, and me not believing an extra 143 HP would make much difference anywhere, aside from accelleration (big whoop) from a stop, yadda-yadda-yadda.

I deleted it from the final post.

So, it was still in my mind, but you guys weren't able to se it...
My mistake... Good catch...

Well I can see your point, but accelleration can come in handy besides getting off of the red line faster then the guy next to you.

But one place were I really enjoy my Lightning is on the highway. Nothing like being stuck behind some guy going 60 MPH and being able to 'thread the needle' between two cars in the fast lane going 80 MPH. 'Passing Power' as I like to call it.

I can relate!

I think more power is great. I like to see the hp numbers. The only problem is I feel like I'm being left behind if I don't go out an buy the most powerful currently being offered. I can't afford to do that and even if I could I'd be buying a new vehicle every couple months.

The thing I don't understand is why in the 21st century it's still necessary to build huge displacement, gas guzzeling motors to create this power. I guess because it's cheap. I for one would like to be offered a more efficient high powered vehicle. Forced induction is a pretty good way of doing that. Once engineered it should be reletively inexpensive to produce.

I wish the focus was more on the efficiency, and also on putting the power in a place that it can be well enjoyed. All these big numbers don't necessarily tell the whole story. Does the 403 number garranty the vehicle will be the fastest? Subaru can get 300 horses out of a 2.5 litres, why can automakers try for 300-400 out of a sub 5 litre? I think they can build powerful, smaller displacement motors capible of moving a full size car or truck.

Thread the needle?

I weigh almost 5000lbs empty!
As long as it's not a semi, another F series, or someone with a load bigger than mine, then I just move over. They seem to always go out of thier way to let me in.

I never understood why we need huge displacement engines to make big power. small engines can do it also. like some one said little man syndrome

There is not! Nor will there ever be a replacement for displacement. With an internal combustion engine.

It is simply physically impossiable.

If you could take a 1.2L 3cyl and some how create 1000 HP with it.
Apply that same technology to a 5.4L 8 cyl. and you will get a whole HECK of a lot more than 1000 hp.

Ask most women if an extra inch matters...
