I'm never buying another ford vehicle.

Ford just closed the WIXOM, MICHIGAN assembly plant.
I know to a lot of you out there it doesn't mean a thing and you can rationalize it by saying it has to be done. BUT, for the 10,000 or so employee's that work there making $50,000 or more who are now out of a job. The economy in Michigan sucks, it is based on manufacturing and those jobs are going to Mexico for cheap labor. So now the job market is going to flood with people looking for jobs, and there aren't any. I have a few friends I grew up with that work there, John, his father and two sisters all work there. Now they are out of a job.

edit: there is about 15,000 employee's there.
Ya. That's the answer. That way, by the loss of your business and other bozos that think like this, they can lay off more people later!

I'm sure that Ford execs sit back and dream up ways of sticking it to their employees, so good for you for taking a stand!

Oh, by the way, don't buy GM either. They're laying off and closing plants too. Oh yeah, and no D.C. products either. They're not even an American owned company anymore.

Looks like you'll need to buy a Harley Davidson motorcycle and push it around while you make your stupid statements.

Get a clue.

I don't know if you have ever looked at salary surveys across the U.S. $50,000 for an employee with probably only a high school education is pretty darn good. Even if you have given that company your life for 30+ years, $50,000 would be an exceptional salary I would think.

I feel for everyone losing their jobs...

At least they have the Union to help them through....right?

Hey the UAW has gouged the automakers for years with above market wages and benefits. The shoe had to drop.

I've always said if I cant go somewhere else and make what I'm making now than I'm overvalued at my present company and my skills arent up to par with the current job market. I either improve my skills or go to another job where I can. But than again I dont have a union smacking my bosses around for me...I get to do it myself.

Ford kills a plant that had just shy of 1600 folks. Sixteen HUNDRED, that's it. Yeah it sucks, but many with seniority will have an opportunity to go elsewhere.

By contrast, when the K-Mart bubble burst the local economy (K-mart was a Troy, MI based company) took a much harder hit losing tens of thousands of jobs, and about 57,000 across the US suddenly had to look for work. Over 600 stores closed.

At it's peak Ford will scrap 30,000 jobs from now until 2012. Wooooooowww... Life will go on, a huge percentage will land on their feet, others will fall on hard times. Sometimes life kicks you in the nuts. Get over it.

Enjoy your GM/DC/Foreign vehicle as well... I'm sure NONE of those companies never have or ever will have to cuts its workforce in order to survive.

On a personal note, I really hope this slowly spells the end of the UAW and it's overpaid membership. Many plants to the south are non-union and chock full of happy workers. Screw the UAW, I want the automotive industry equivilent of the famous Detroit Free Press/News strike!!!!!

The answer is don't buy RICE ! I preach this all the time to people but, they don't listen. Just like the food industry I used tto drive for was union and made a decent wage with benies. now this scumbag from Europe has suceeded in buying most big chains in this country and he dictates the prices who, is non union but, guess what you are paying more for their food then few years ago. So how do you blame Unions for this one just like cars industry. Oh! and BTW be sure and vote republican because they are big on busting unions just ask bush/chenney team so, I say goodluck to all you people that don't pay attention and get involved on these poloticians voting records.

Actually, no they are not. They are going to Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, etc. You say it like Ford is moving their production to Mexico. They are not. The sales are being lost to Japanese companies with plants in the US.

But they are smart. Where GM and Ford have concentrated their factories in one area, they have had congressmen, senators and governors from Michigan fighting for their rights.

The Japanese on the other hand have spread out to as many states as they can. They have 5 times as many senators and governors fighting for their right to make a buck.

So dont expect government to bail out Ford and GM anytime soon.

Sounds like one of the smarter poster here.........except the comment about pushing his harley. WTF does that mean?

But know this.........the GM plant that was less than 1 mile from my house closed. They use to build Blazers and Tahoes there. Every afternoon that I drove by, the employee parking lot was full of jap cars. Blame upper management, or the unions, but when you have the people that earn a living there, buying "other" products, I could care less that the lost their jobs.
I know, if I made my living building Sony TV's, there would be a goddamn Sony in every room. If I made my living building Chevy Blazers, there would be two in my driveway.........see a pattern here?

I'd buy the products if they are well engineered, solid machines with the look and features I want. Those plant workers are not to blame because they buy competitors products... even if every person in that factory had 2 of the vehicles they built it wouldn't put a dent in the bottom line and the factory still closes. Now they are out of a job and stuck with two POS cars they didn't want in the first place....
