That is cool. Looks like the have the safety aspect of a manual pretty well covered. I always saw that as the main reason no one wanted to make a remote start for a standard trans..

Sled...

Hey, thanks for the link. I've been thinking about putting a starter on the Stang, just wasn't sure exactly how to go about it...

Gonna go read through your link...

Link didn't provide much info. Just mainly that you need to bypass the neutral safety switch on the clutch pedal, and leave it in neutral. I was hoping for something about setting up a satefy switch in the shifter that won't allow it to start if it's in gear. I know people do this, just not sure how they do it.

I spoke to a guy at Best Buy (I know what you're thinking, but around here the BB guys really know their stuff, seriously) He said they are not legally able to do any kind of remote start installation on a manual tranny. I know the manager of the install bay, just haven't a chance to talk to him... Rarely see him anymore... I was hoping I could get them to install it, and I could do the shifter switch...

I don't NEED the remote start, but it would be nice. Had it on my truck, and have it on the fiance's civic... May just end up putting on a nice alarm with window and headlight controls...

with a manual trans remote start, you need to take the time to set up the car to be remote started every time you get out of the car. IMO its a real pain. If you read at the bottom on the page that is linked it describes this process. basically you hit a button on the remote, take the key out and get out of the car and it remains running, you then lock the car with the remote and you are good to go because the alarm knows you left it in neutral.

Some manual transmissions have a neutral switch on them and in that case you can use a automatic trans remote start. The T5 in the mustang up to 93 had a neutral saftey switch and i was able to get some parts off of that year trans to convert my 94 mustang's transmission. I will be putting a remote start in it soon. As for the T45, you can check the exploded diagrams but i dont think it has a provision for any type of neutral switch.

The only problem with the remote starters for manuals is that if you leave it in gear and try to start it with the remote, it WILL turn over, I talked to a guy at a shop yesterday and his truck ran up on a rock pile behind his house when he started it and it was still in gear...but I'm hoping to get one soon for my auto!

I had a 1998 F150 with a 5 speed manual. I had a shop here in town install an auto start on it, worked really well. I had to put 'er in neutral, set the parking brake, hit one button, turn the ignition switch to get the key out (engine was still running), get out of the truck, make sure all the doors were closed, then press #1, then #2 buttons (I think that's what the order was), then the truck shut down and flashed its lights (basically what cschwer said). I was worried about the neutral switch being bypassed and the truck being in gear when starting it, so I turned the truck around in the driveway (facing AWAY from the house), hopped in, armed the system, and tried it when the truck was in first gear. Nothing happened, but the truck did arm the system. I pushed the start switch a few more times, still nothing happened. So I set it up in neutral, fired right up. Smart system, I guess. It was the CommandStart brand, can't remember the model number, though.

They system I looked at wasn't that complicated. When you turned the truck off, all you had to do was turn it off (no buttons to press) and get out. Arm the system, and you're ready to go. To fire it up, all you had to do was press the lock and unlock buttons for like 5 seconds.

Now why in heck would anyone with half a brain try to start their vehicle remotely without having it in neutral???? Would you get in your car and start itwithout at least pushing the clutch pedal? When driving a standard, always put the transmission in neutral before turning the key. Just putting the clutch in could be dangerous also, especially during wet, snowy weather. Your foot may slide off the clutch, causing your vehicle to rocket away.
