OK, it seems somebody has brought staph into my office and two people on my team have it now. I went to the Dr. today with what I thought was a sty, and he told me it's some sort of bacterial infection, not a sty.

I tell my boss, and he tells me to stay at home because two people in teh shop now have staph.

I can see it's "catchy" what can be done to halt the spread and reinfection...

I have "staff" infection at work also, I dont think theres a cure for it.

Wash your hands all the time. You will cut the number of colds you ever have at least in half. Just think of all the things we handle that have contacted other people, thats how germs spread. Infections spread so easy in the workplace, the doornob your co-worker turns is the source of your next infection.

I work in a healthcare facility and am rarely sick because I wash my hands allot.

 

No one brought staph into your workk place it is, was and will be there all the time. Staph is everywhere. Some people seem more suceptable to it. I have had many staph infections in my right leg, to the point it is severly damaged, the only thing to take care of it is antibiotics. IV's seem to work best on really severe cases, sometimes I have been able to control it with Keflex.

There are so many different strains of staph, usually they will have to do a blood work up to find the strain and go from there as to treatment. I have ended up in a hospital for 10-15 days getting IV antibiotics pumped into me. These were the most severe cases for myself, most of the time just oral ABs work.

Staph infection is not to be taken lightly as it has the possibility to kill you if not treated.

Cleanliness helps a lot but you can never get away from it.

Staph, strep, and mono are all bacterias. One is a cluster (Staph I think), one is a string (Strep), and one is individual (Mono), but all do about the same crazy stuff to your body.

If it's a small shop, have everyone's nose swabbed and checked for the Staph. It lives in peoples noses, but they don't necessarily get infected. They just carry it.

Oh yeah, the part about the casket is not so funny........

Dangerous staph strain on the rise

 

 

It's nasty stuff. A couple of years ago I guy I played football with in college died form MRSA (methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus). He got a cut on his hip and it got infected from dirty football pads, ignored it too long and by the time he was treated and diagnosed with a resistant strain he was totally septic. We are talking about a timeline of a week from totally healthy to dead. He was a great kid and it was tragic.

Glad to hear you got it diagnosed and treated, that's the key.

Ever since I worked in a microbiology lab for 2.5 years I’m a bit of a germophobe. You can’t imagine what will grow in a Petri dish from just touching your finger to it. Better yet spit in one.

 

PS- I never said I had staph; I said two people in my office have it...

I don't have any cuts or scrapes on me, so I should be good to go.
