turns out, I have Polycystic Kidney Disease

Turns out the Dr's were right, looks like I have Polycystic Kidney Disease. Wasn't what I was expecting at 22 years old, but guess its best to know about it early and get things taken care of and under controll.

Yes you are way to young for this to happen, i feel for you bro. I have kidney disease (IGA) and have had it for almost 10 years. I am now at around 19% kidney function . It all started with strep throat which lead to a kidney infection and the end result is kidney failure. To all the tough guys out there who say i don't need to see a doctor i can fight it myself no problem think again!!!. I waited and now i am fighting each day with limited intake of potassium, salts, protein etc... I wish you nothing but the best and fight the good fight.. good luck..

Sorry to hear that Phillip. I am not familiar with that disease, what does the treatment entail? Will you have to go on dialysis? Do you take medication or just diet to control it?

I wish you all the best in your treatment and outlook.

Sorry to hear that, I hope you can get it under control. I don't know anything about it but my grandfather had complete kidney failure several times in his life and they always got them working again.

I was a big tough guy until last summer I got viral menegitis from some kind of bug bite on the back of my neck. That was the most miserable two months of my life. Blinding and I mean blinding headaches for a month straight. The treatment was blood pressure medication, and a anti-depressant while my body fights the virus. I still don't feel the same as I did before but I am mostly back to normal.

Good luck and do exactly as the doctor says.

as of now, Kidney function is at 100% with no side effects... so will maintain the low blood pressure (see below), go with low salt, potassium, protien foods and keep an eye on it. There isn't much you can do till kidney funcion starts dropping, and then the fix is kidney replacement. The Dr's think that finding it early will help out a lot down the road. The MRI (for something else) found the cysts (sp?) on the kidney's, so I went straight to the best Kidney specialist around and got everything figured out.

Already on blood pressure stuff for a slightly enlarged aorta. Possibly when the time comes, I can get a 2 for one replacement surgery.

Problems are for transplant, you need to be less than 15% of useage and then theres the LIST you have to get on then matching you for a proper one. Then there is a problem waiting and waiting and waiting... If you are blessed with a family member or real good friend that is willing to donate thenn you are in good shape. good luck,,
