Boone Pickens gives largest single donation for NCAA athletics ever

Stillwater, Okla. - Oklahoma State University officials announced today that legendary oilman Boone Pickens has donated $165 million to be used to fund one of the nation's most comprehensive collegiate athletic complexes during the next five to 10 years.
Pickens' gift is the largest single donation for athletics to an institution of higher education in U.S. history.

Well there's at least one good thing about high gas prices, rich alumni oilmen.

Yeah, I love Boone Pickens Stadium. I was down there for a OSU/KSU game a couple years ago, the place is beautiful.

It doesn't matter how much money you pump into OSU, they will always suck and be second tier to OU! Orange looks good on nobody.

a few Alumni have been giving as of late. Last year William S. Spears gave 20 million to the business college alone.

BJH... check out FordTruckWorld. We are having a meet in Moore Jan 17th at BWW.

Hey KSU Wildcat I notice a picture of the 2003 concrete canoe team. I was on the team for 3 years at OSU. I remember when we went up to Manhattan in 2003. Were you involved?

Yes, as a matter of fact that is my unfortunate self in the front. Our theme was Blazin' Paddles, thus the cowboy hat.

Looks like at least three of f150onliners were there, wstahlm80 was there that weekend as well.

Yeah as I recall your canoe came into two pieces, but it didn't stop you guys from having a good time. I was in the distance race that year for OSU. Too bad our canoe was screwed up and was like trying to paddle a bathtub.

I had some good times with canoe. I got to go to San Diego and then to Madison WI.

The bridge I'm on right now has a research project a KSU grad student is working on. He was there in 03 as well. First name is Kyle. He was the one who came up with the idea of using some quick setting grout or mortar or something to put your guys canoe back together.

We damn sure finished that distance race though!

Quick set grout, epoxy, duct tape, plastic sheeting, electrical conduit, fiberglass, etc. was used to try and patch that thing up. By the end we were paddling a concrete rug! I think the fiberglass was donated by your team.

Kyle, hmmm...I probably know him but I can't for the life of me remember what his last name would be. As for my name, he might recognize Grisier (rhymes with Budweiser)

I helped on the OU concrete canoe team. I just helped build, I didn't make the trips. If I recall correct, we usually ended up finishing pretty good.

Went to the Norman, OK competition at Thunderbird Lake in '02. Which also happened to be my 21st birthday. I don't know if we didn't find the right places, but the Manhattan bar scene is way superior to what we found in Norman. One "bouncer" thought it was the highlight of the week when I showed him my ID. "You're 21 today?!?" Me, "Uh, yeah."

Again, probably just us missing the hot spots. I did however get a tshirt and a free shot at Brother's.

You must have just missed the good spots or went on a bad night. The bar scene can get crazy with lines at every bar. It seems like they open another new bar every few months on or near campus.

WOW an OU fan that actually went to OU! Not that many around that I have met anyways.

I was on the team in 01, 02, and 03. We swept regionals in 01 and 02 and got 3rd at Nationals both years too. I recall that there was an older guy on the OU team. I mean this guy was alot older, like in his 40's. Anyways he was a real jerk from what I remember. He seemed to basically control the team. I never could figure out if he was a non-traditional student, or went back to get his masters or was the faculty advisor.

I also remember the OU Civil Eng. Department Head drunk on top of his pontoon boat the day of the races at Lake Thunderbird. He was yelling and screaming, I think he may have had a bullhorn. Talk about representing your school! Then Dr. Hughes told me that they don't usually take him out of town.

All in all though I really enjoyed the competition because everybody from all the schools got along and nobody had big egos.
