Cruise Control Recall $8 Part

Just a heads up. You can buy the cruise control recall harness for $8.00. It installs in about 2 minutes, 2 plugs and two cable ties.

Why did I buy it? I wanted to get it done and didn't want to take vacation time to take it to the dealer. I couldn't rent a car for $8, so I did it myself.

There is a kit that includes the switch and the harness. If your switch is bad/leaking, they are supposed to put on that kit. I've already changed my switch. If the switch starts leaking, I pull the harness and take it in for the recall.

I'll get the harness part # is anyone wants it.

Thanks for the info.

I would love the part number. I started a new job a few months ago and just can't take 1/2 day off to go to the dealer for something I can do myself on the weekend.

good information but I have a question.

We have an 02 F-150 thats been recalled for the same cruise control. If we were to buy this part and hook it on ourselfs, and some how the truck still caught fire. Whos fault would that be? Ours for not having the dealer hook it up? Or still Fords problem?

so your probably better off letting the dealer do this work then? I kinda figured that would make sence.

My mechanic ordered the part for me, I swung in and it took less than 5 minutes for us to change it in his driveway. He charged me the full markup of $12 for the harness and switch.

I don't think Ford has given anything to people whose truck/garage/house has burned. At this point, it will be your problem no mater what. The notifications have gone out, and procedures are in place to prevent fires with/without the harness.

I don't see anyway that installing the harness yourself could make anthing worse. The harness is fused and it is in a heavy loom. I just figured there are some like me who cant/don't want to take their truck in to the dealer.

The number on the kits with switch is 9F924. It would be interesting to see if the kit is cheaper than just the switch alone. I've lost my recipt for the harness. I'll get the prices and part # tomorrow.

Got the part #'s

Harness only about $8.00 list
4W1Z14A411BC

Harness with current version of switch $14.24 list
1L1Z9F924AA

I've already changed my switch. I think it was about $25 wholesale, so the harness with switch is a good deal. But, if you have the time, the dealer should do it for free.

Mine is already taken care of. I called the dealer and seen if they had the parts. They did and they said bring it over. It took longer for them to do the paperwork than it did to replace the harness. Just don't go to the big dealership near you. Go to the smaller family dealership near you and it will get taken care of quickly.

yep, i did mine early October. i parked it in the parking lot and went in to do the papers and turned around and was already done. I've been in there a few times and they now refer to me as the guy with the 4x2 sb truck... i guess they think it is funny or something.

The only problem with this scenario is that you an open recall on your vehicle. Even with the receipt as proof of purchase, Ford does not recognize that the recall was perfromed.

I don't think anyone at Ford will be losin' sleep over it. My truck hasn't been in a dealer for over 5 years (lug nut recall). I don't see the need to start now for $8. Really I just posted this for guys like DBD. It's hard for me to find time to get there, and I don't have extra car. I'm sure there would be others like me, and there is at least one.

Thanks for clarifying that. I also have a shortbed truck and so do many other people but no one ever refers to someone or remembers them by the fact that their truck is a short bed. If someone sees me for example and remembers me by my truck, it will probably be that it a black f150 and not a shortbed.

That's the only thing I have ever had any dealer do for me.
Took them 20 mins with out appointment, I browsed the lot while I was there. Wasn't even the dealer that I bought the truck from.
