titan v f150
hey as you can probably tell this is my first post on f150online. I am going to be getting a new truck within 6 months. I have test driven the Ram 1500 and ruled it out. I am not interested in the Chevy/GMC. I have come here today to ask you f150 experts why the f150 is better than the Nissan Titan, why you made your decision, and regrets you may have, and so on. Any input would be appreciated. I am posting a similar question on a titan forum. Thanks again.

if you care anything about speed get the titan. The titans 5.6 v8 even comes with the base model. If 0-60 times dont matter to you get the F150 with 5.4 24v.

If want the faster accelerating truck, go with the Nissan, otherwise the F150 is the better truck IMHO. Both had problems early on and on the 06 Ford I believe you find it will be a very good vehicle. The Nissans had severe brake wear and rear axle problems, which hopefully are corrected, but you need to make sure. Also, the interior of the Ford uses higher quality materials and both the interior and exterior of the Ford are better looking than the Nissan.
Good luck either way you go. |
I test drove the Titan 8 months after buying the F150.
What I found; Power on the Titan with the 5.6 was slightly better than on my modded 4.6. My 4.6 is a regular cab, the Titan had tiny rear seats. So my truck was not as heavy. Plus a tuner, exhaust and intake on my truck. Room. I could not drive the Titan on a regular basis. I'm 6'3''. The Titan is not designed for people over 6 feet tall. The only Japanese company that regularly makes vehicles for over 6' is Suzuki, and they don't make a pickup. The seats were too narrow. I am about 245lbs. Way too big for the Titan. The controls felt cheap. The Ergonomics were just not right for a full sized man. It was ugly, inside and out, but I kinda like the butt ugly front. I know it's ugly, but sometimes I like ugly. Gas mileage was EPA worse than on my truck. 14-17 on the window sticker. My truck EPA's at 15-19 and I do better on the open road, by a lot. Not many aftermarket toys available, those that were available were high priced. The F-150 handled much better. The Nissan had a kind of vagueness to the steering, something like an older pickup. Final deal breaker; Price. I got my truck new at 56% of window sticker. The local Nissan dealer was getting sticker plus 5%. Even at sticker I would never consider that much for a light truck. Also, they don't offer a regular cab. I don't need the rear seats, don't want them in the way, don't want the extra length. |
I chose the F150 for several reasons:
1) The F150 just plain looks awesome 2) QUIET QUIET QUIET 3) SMOOTH SMOOTH SMOOTH 4) Build quality and Ford truck toughness 5) I feel the F150 has great power. It is not a race car, but guess what...I didn't buy a race car. I bought a 5500 lb truck to pull my camper and not race with. 6) I have a '99 F150 with 125k on it and very few problems. I'm hoping to repeat that with my 2005. 7) I bleed Ford blue - what can I say, I love Ford trucks :rocker: My suggestion: Drive both and buy the one you like the best and that suits your needs. |

I work with a guy that has a Titan. Both our trucks are black and neither is the top of the line modle. I have an XLT. He paid about $2500 less for his truck and it shows. In fact when side by side, there is just no doubt the difference in materials and the way it is put together. The only thing he has over mine is a little faster truck(according to all I have read, we have not raced). However, I am positive that with a program tuner, I could have a faster truck, were that my concern. On the Ford Motor Co site, there was a video that compared the F150 to other trucks. If it is still on there, watch that. Most guys seem to think the Titan is ugly, I don't really think it looks all that bad, although, I don't like the one with all the chrome on the front. I just like the F150 better.
Besides, you get to hang out here with all the great guys that can help you should the need arise. :rocker: |
Those Titans are ugly, but they are fast. I test drove one and it started smoking the tires from a 10mph roll. It was cold as hell outside, but still, my F150 wont do that. I like my truck though, wouldent trade it for a Titan.

Both seem to be good trucks. Drive both to see what YOU like and dislike about each. Then weigh the pros and cons.
Also, it's very helpful to speak with people that have used the service department of the dealers in your area. Will give you an idea of what to expect when you need work done. Best of luck with your decision. Joey |
One reason I bought the F150 is for repairs and service. I live in the sticks and there are not many Nissan dealerships or repair facilities that will work on them around. If I'm out in the country pulling my camper and break down, it can be a long way to somebody who can and will work on the Nissan and the parts availability is not good. I can find a Ford dealer or someone who can and will work on a Ford much easier. Also, I plan on keeping my truck for several years and an old Ford or Chevrolet is easier to sell around here than an old Nissan.
I also found I could buy my Ford much cheaper and I wanted a standard cab that is not available on the Nissan. Besides, the Ford folks were much nicer than the folks at the Nissan dealership. |
who do you think knows trucks better?
ford (150, 250, superduty250, superduty350) or nissan (do they have other models? sure they sell heavy duty stuff in japan) nissan built the titan as an f150 clone. just get the original.... the f150. |
