It's almost time for the New Year and my Hoppin' Johns and Collards!!! It (other than my Southern accent and easy way of doing things) is one of the few things I brought from down home in Charleston, SC to this barren desert oasis... I managed to find some fresh collards at the store (In Arizona) and some ham hocks and ready to get them thangs COOKIN'!!! I'll get my Hoppin' Johns (black eyed peas and rice cooked with bacon and a ham hock)cooking early on the 1st, done just in time to eat some supper...

FYI - Traditionally, collards are eaten on New Year's Day to bring you money in the new year and Hoppin' John is for good luck...

Mmmm.. Da's GOOD, yeah!!!

My Mamaw makes that for New Year's too. Say's it's good luck. She only cooks pinto beans if the "signs" are right, and all the constellations are in their "perfect pinto" galaxial coordinates. I guess she's old timey like dat yo.
