Question Baffling Question

I started to talk about my Caprice cop car in another thread and a good question popped into my head. I know alot of police officers that tell me how much they hate the crown vics cause they are slow, and one even admitted to me that an old acura out ran him on some back roads around here. My question is........why don't the crown vics have as an option a 5.4 engine. The Caprice between 94-96 offered either a horrible 4.3 V8 (yes V8) and the 5.7 LT1. Why won't ford offer the 4.6 and the 5.4. Has anyone ever tried to put a 5.4 into a crown vic? I can't see why they can't. The F150's use a 4R70W tranny with either engine, so that can't be the issue.

I think the engine compartment won't handle the 5.4. My old next door neighbor had an "interceptor" version of the crown vic that had the cobra engine in it. He said he hit the limiter on it (115 I believe) a few times. He was PO'd that they set the limiter so low, but I guess it got there pretty darn fast.

Cop cars DON’T need no damn big motor. I say put peddles inside and let them peddle the car so it would say me a few bucks in taxes…

Honestly though they don’t have ANY need for a big motor since very few people can outrun the radio…

Tell me about it!
Sure didn't work for me when I tried. Smoked one, he acted like he didn't even try, got 8 blocks, turned right and here was 2 more coming down that street. Now behind me. Came to my senses and pulled over. :o

There's really no need for it. Most police departments frown on high speed chases for the sake of public safety. Besides, I don't think another 30 or so horsepower and 30 ft/lbs of torque (using a 260 horse/330ft-lbs 5.4 as an example) would really help a Crown Vic a lot. It'd probably make the car cost more too.

I had a State Trooper pull me over at the toll booths one day last summer. Even though I was in the Lightning the thought of trying to outrun him never entered my mine.

One, because it would have been stupid, two, the radio would have caught me, three, if the radio wouldn't have caught me my plate would have been easy to remember it reads "UDLOSE"

So I pull over and he comes up, kind of a young guy. Ask me "Really? So, I ask "Really, what?" him "That I would lose..." me, "Ah, no, not in this case..."

Anyway he had seen my truck once before and wanted to get a closer look (Freaking Zaino shine... ) and hope I didn't mind. I said no, he liked my VET plates and what they read, the UDLOSE and really loved the truck, wanted to see the supercharger and LOVED that...

I ran from a cop when i had my FZR600 and got away with it. i simply out ran and out maneuvered him on the country lanes. It was a cop on a bike (BMW) and i was 2 up.
About a year later i was chased for 25 mile before getting pulled over. i didn't know i was being chased until i exited the highway. they swarmed me at a red light. Lost my license for 6 months due to the ticket reading speeding in excess of 120mph with just about everything else tacked on. I could never get insurance for my bike after that.
I have so many stories about my stupid actions when i was younger.

Mine was 17 years old...
I had accomplished it twice before and got away from one county mounty and the other one was a sate patrol. Both were on dirt roads. They were with in a month apart and mid summer in a drought. I was in my 69 F100, when I hit the dirt road at 80-90 mph, anyone behind me could not be able to see the front of their hood for at least 2 miles behind me for the dust.
The first one I had to take an old dry creek bed off the dirt road to get away. But really wasn’t very exciting.

The state patrol tried to follow my dust trail. I made a complete circle ended up back on the highway went back and took off down the same road I had already taken to lose him. (So I took about 4-mile circle) When I caught up with the patrolman. I followed him for a while with his cherries flashing, and then he took off to follow the dust trail from my first circle. So I non chalantly (sp?) turned the other direction and slowly drove away. The whole time that we were behind him (while he was chasing me ) the two girls that were with me finally quit screaming and then were dying laughing!

Of course they thought I as a stud, so they told their friends and as talk about it and version of the story grew. Living in a small town it got back to several of the cops. I was then marked. They didn’t even have to have a reason to pull me over they would make one up just to give me a ticket.
So I got rid of that truck and got my dream car, an 81 Trans-Am (smokey and the bandit) only mine is white with a blue bird. Yea that was so much more discreet! :rolls eyes: Didn’t take them long to find out I had changed vehicles and it started again. Ended up I had to get a black S10 just to blend in with the rest of traffic and not get a ticket.

When I got caught was about when I had just gotten my 81 Trans am + was my first night ever to have my very first drink in my life. Wasn't drunk but was buzzed.
I had 3 chicks and a friend with me. We were in town when I passed the cop heading the other direction and seen him turn around behind me. I looked down and I was doing 60+ in a 35 zone. I thought to myself, "I can take this guy, he'll never get thru traffic to catch up to me if I don’t let up and I'm in the TA!" All odds are for me!
So I yank it on to a side street at 60 mph. Sliding sideways, tires squalling, smoke rolling! Then when I get it straight I nailed it to the floor for about 7-8 blocks. Didn't take time to look at the speedo, so I don't know what my top speed was. The lifters were starting to float, so that would mean I was probably hitting about 115+/-!
I came up to a cross street and realized that this street was severely raised, This would act as a ramp and launch me probably about 5 foot in the air. I didn't want to tear up my car and with the back seat full that was inevitable. It also had bad shocks anyway so it was going to smash alot of things. So I slam on the brakes and was not slowing down in time. So just as I got to it I hit the e-brake and tried to slide it side ways. Hoping I was slowed down enough not to flip when I hit the raised section. It didn't make the full 90º turn before I hit the street (probably a good thing). I did get slightly airborne but slid to a stop with the nose inches from the stop sign on the other side. I was sitting caddy corner in the intersection, I slammed it in reverse and when I looked in the rear view mirror here came the 2 more cops down that street and their lights came on. So I stuck it in drive, eased into a parking place, and waited for them to get to me.

Well here is my cop story. My father is a retired city cop...so going down to the local street strip to drag down a city street was stupid. I raced an old Camaro and we pull back in the lot by the street. Cops swarm us. We play stupid and they let us go...I thought it was odd. I left went to 7-11 for a Dew and headed home. My father is waiting...here is the exchange:

"Did you go down to N. Pkwy racing?"

"Nope"

"Sure?"

"Yep"

"So you didnt race a blue Camaro with plate abc 123?"

"uh...no"

"and then you went to 7-11 bought a mountain dew and came home?"

"What? Heck no...well night"

My Dad never punished me but he got his point across....

Cops as Dads suck.

Only cop I ever ran from was a MTA cop so they dont really count.

When they caught me, they had to take me in. I was 17 so they couldn't throw me in jail, but I had to call my parents to come post bail. It took them 2 hours to convince me to call my dad to come bail me out. They threatened me with throwing me in jail and I told them to please do. Dad can't get to me there. They tried to scare me with stories of bubba, and I said that's a better than facing dad. They were trying not to laugh becasue they knew I was more scared of my dad than I was of 100 Bubba's. I finally called mom and dad, I'll never forget the ride home. Neither one said a thing, that was the most scared that I've ever been, got home and they both went to bed and didn't say a word to me! I didn't sleep a wink that night! Geesh that was so scarey!

When we were kids back in the 70's. A friend was pulled over for speeding.
Call him Bob. Bob had a car full of friends. The cop comes over to the window, and taps on it. Bob has it rolled up, every one has been smoking cigaretes and the car is smoky inside. Bob rolls the window down an inch and as all the smoke is billowing out, says "what" and rolls the window back up.
The cop is now pissed and bangs on the window "roll it down." Bob rolls down the window as he is saying. I bet you want to sell me two tickets to the
RCMP ball. (Yep Canada). The cop is throughally pissed and retorts The RCMP don't have *****. He turned very red with the mocking laughter, turned, walked away and left in his squad car.

A funny one we share in my family, one of my uncles was a chronic drunk. This was back in the late 60's. He left the bar and was heading home. Cop pulls him over and ask, "Where are you going?" My uncle replied, "I don't know but I must have missed it becasue everyone else is heading the other way!" Cop bust up laughing and hauls him in. He was driving the wrong direction down the interstate!

If you ever get pulled over by a cop in Canada. The RCMP are always very pleasant. Never had an attitude from one. Some may not agree but they are pretty good at giving breaks for highway speeding. ( Reasonable speed that is. )

in my 20's had an arrest warrent for traffic violations, RCMP pulled me over several hundred miles from home, let me go with a promise to appear.
Never did show up just mailed the sentenced fine instead. all was O.K.
