Some Incredible Engineering

Did You Ever See A Water Bridge?
What a feat! Six years, 500 million euros, 918 meters long.......now this is engineering!
This is a channel-bridge over the River Elbe and joins the former East and West Germany, as part of the unification project. It is located in the city of Magdeburg, near Berlin. The photo was taken on the day of inauguration.
To those who appreciate engineering projects.

I'm sorry, but that is stupid! It may be an engineering feat, but like all great engineering projects, we must first stand back and ask ourselfs "What are we trying to accomplish, and what is the easiest way to do it." Everyone seems to think over engineered german cars are the greatest things in the world, but they all are willing to overlook the many problems they have! **Cough cough...audi, VW, mercedees...cough cough***

Uh, that would be me...over 350,000 mi on my '90 VW with exactly one breakdown - and that was an electrical problem that was readily fixed. Over 300,000 mi on my MB 300D and it was still ticking when I sold it to a guy for his daughter's first ride...

And how can you not think US cars are over-engineered? More extraneous trim pieces and useless doodads on GM and Ford products than I ever saw on my VW's or Mercedes. All the electric ball-scratchers I find in US cars amaze me.

Don't get me wrong - I love my current F150 and was very happy with the last one, but US cars corner the market on "over-engineered"

Well it may be silly and a waste of time, resources and money but it sure looks impressive to me.

ha! VW'S are peices of crap man. Sam with Mercedes, the quilty in Mercedes a lone has become crap. Maybe you did luck out on the older modles from VW and Mercedes, but the newer ones now are junk. I have 2 buddies that have Jetta's, one's an 01, the other 03, lets just say they have had more problems then I have had with my Fords. Fords are so much better now then VW'S and even Mercedes now when it comes to reliabily.

What you are failing to understand is that River traffic in Europe (and most the rest of the world) is vital to their economy....it is similar to our VERY inefficent truck traffic here in the US. So, yes...you may think this is "stupid"....but is is only because you are used to the way America transports its goods.....which by the way....is VERY INEFFICENT!!

Well, I see the "other" maker bashing has already been covered, so now it's time to talk about how great or terrible Saint Bush is... So, let the political rhetoric begin...

BTW, I hate to stay on topic here, but what does that bridge join? Two other rivers, lakes, resevoirs? and any idea how deep the water is on it?
