Cell Phone Taxes....

I know.....I know....cell phones are evil....the only reason I have one is because I am single and always on the move....so there is no logical reason to have a landline.....

....anyway....my current montly bill was emailed to me this morning.....

Monthly Service Charges: $47.98
Other Charges: $4.73
Taxes: $8.46

Does anyone else feel it is obsurd that taxes have increase to the point that they are almost 14% of my overall bill?

Man.....it is time for everyone to make a trip to Boston and throw their cell phones into the harbor.

Did you know that 3% of the tax is a legacy used to fund the Spanish-American War?

My tax is only about 10%. Not much more than our 8.75% sales tax.

"Congress enacted the so-called "luxury" excise tax at 1 cent a phone call to pay for the Spanish American War back in 1898, when only a few thousand phone lines existed in the country. It was repealed in 1902, but was reimposed at 1 cent a call in 1914 to pay for World War I and eventually became permanent at a rate of 3 percent in 1990."

it amazes how fiscally irresponsible our leaders are.....how is it that we can allow a debt to go unpaid for more than 200 yrs?.....

because they continue to rack up more debt and have none left to pay back the original debt.

They are in effect, paying their Visa bill with the Mastercard, while continuing to spend.
