Truck Miles
Truck Miles
How many miles do you have on your truck?
I just purchased a mine with 77,000 miles. I know the miles on this truck were highway miles and were not driven hard. I also know of folks who have had in excess of 200,000 miles on their F-150's. Can I safely assume that I should get at least an additional 70 - 80,000 miles out of this truck?
PS. Being a former GM Guy, I really enjoy this Ford. Extremely nice truck.

My 97 F150 has 155K miles
I haven't had any real issues with it yet, just regular maintainance items like oil changes, replaced rotors and brake pads, replaced u-joints,replaced 2 tierod ends and a few sets of tires.

Absolutely, you can get an additional 70 – 80,000 miles out of it. 200,000 miles today is not really a big deal with how motors are designed and manufactured. The key, as was mentioned, is maintenance.
Now is where some arguments may begin on just what maintenance is needed and how often. Remember you want to get at least 200,000 plus out of the “entire” trunk and not just the motor. So that means planned routine maintenance on the “entire” truck which includes motor, transmission, drivetrain, chassis components, fluids to name a few as well as the interior and exterior of the vehicle.
I DON’T recommend following Fords recommendation for plug changes and a few other items.
Do NOT go 100,000 miles between plug changes. Personally I wouldn’t go any more then 30,000 miles and I think that is pushing it.
Just a few things off the top of my head:
Oil and filter – at least every 3 – 5,000 miles and use synthetic like Mobil One.
Fuel filter – every 5,000 – 10,000 miles
Transmission (automatic) fluid and filter – every 30,000 miles
Oxygen sensors – every 30,000 – 50,000 miles (they begin to age the day they are put in. As they age they are not as effective and tend to make vehicles run richer which means more fuel consumption.)
Plugs – every 30,000 miles.
Flush brake fluid and radiator coolant at least every 2 years. Brake fluid absorbs moisture which means the older it is the more moisture it has in it. It affects the stopping power as well as rust internal parts.
Differential fluid – every 50,000 miles.
I can’t think of anything else off the top of my head and I am sure others will. Just remember that nothing is forever regardless what Ford or any other manufacture may state when it comes to parts and/or fluids. Parts wear out and ALL fluids deteriorate over time.

Welcome to Ford trucks and the best Ford truck site!!
Glad to hear you're enjoying your truck.
My truck is just a baby (mileage wise anyhow) only a little over 30,000 miles on the ODO. With proper care and maintenance you'll be enjoying your truck for many, many miles to come!!

Thanks All,
I guess I really don't have that many miles on the truck at all. If I can get 150,000 out of it I would be happy. This truck is in perfect condition inside and out and I hope to keep it that way as long as I can.

hmmm... the clock says 71,xxx, but I'm assuming it's 175,xxx or even 275,xxx. Of course it's a 75 though...
And while typing this I was on hold with Ford Parts, who told me the 390 is no longer serviced by Ford, and that I would have to seek an aftermarket valve spring. I just need one...
