Just as a sidenote, you will not find total peace and contentment in this life. You're absolutely correct. No matter what people want to believe, the human condition is depraved, and will never change. It only gets covered up better as time goes on, but we will get to the point of deminishing return, and humanity will eventually be shown for what it truly is. There is only one true way to have peace about this world, but I'll stop short of the preaching today.
