99 4.2 L F150

Okay tell me if this sounds like a good deal:
4X4, Excellent condition, 78,000 miles, 1999, abs, ac, radio, 4.2L, V6, Automatic...

So are there any problems with the 99 4.2 L F150's? Is the power out of them good for someone who won't need to be towing anything or plowing?

Thanks!

In that regard, yes, I think it is. I'm not a fan of the 4.2, some of them have issues; but if it's been well maintained and you don't ask things of it it can't do, you shouldn't have any problems.

The 99+ engines are bullet proof. 97's and early 98 4.2's had issues. They have good power for a v6. Mine's a reg cab 4x2 mated to a 5 spd tranny. It'll skoot when I push it hard. But it's not neck snapping fast. Now if you have 4x4, it will slow it down a little, but these aren't drag trucks to begin with. The auto tranny is built a little stronger than the 5-spd manual. That's why the tow rating is a little higher for autos. Get a Superchips Micro Tuner (est. $400) and upload 25-30 more horsepower, and firm up your shifts. It will feel like a different truck. That'll definatley wake that 4.2L up. That's one of my future mods after I get mine paid off this Summer. Good luck with whatever you do.

the 4.2 V-6 is a great engine! My father had a 2002 f150 that has been passed down to my brother now since he is no longer with us, and it's been flawless since new in 02!

Its not the fastest truck in the world, but who buys a truck for speed? If your not towing much, you should be very happy with the v-6

goodluck to u!

Sorry to hear about your father...

Thanks for the information. If anyone wants to add anything to this, feel free to do so.

I'm always weary of used automatics. At that milage it should have been flushed with Mercon V at least once, and is comin up on it's next service flush. If no records, walk away.

Thanks, but it's the "Zaino" that makes it badda$$...

Waiting for RockPick to poke his head into this thread now...

RockPick? I think he lives up there in General Detailing. I think the old boy has pitched a tent up there with a fire, marshmellows, brats, beer, and everything just waiting on the next detailing question from a newbie.

I saw Barry Meguiar today on "My Classic Car" on the Speed Channel, and wondered if RockPick was his son or something because Barry looked just like that old pic of RockPick he posted a long time ago. And his fascination with Meguiar's products makes you wonder.

Oh, and you know just as well as I do that it's not the Zaino that makes that a bada$$ truck. It does help just a little bit though.

That ought to draw him out of the detailing forum. Hehehe.

Thanks again, they are indeed a very sweet truck. Something special about that blower whine…

Another picture I like:

When I hear a blower, I think of the movie Mad Max. Take care of that very cool truck.
