I thought I was the only f.m.f. capable of breaking the weld on a chair...

Welcome to the club!!

Then again, if it's a Lane.... I've snapped two handles and a weld... But, my pos chair at work endures year after year... I don't know if they had a bad batch or what; but- at least they replaced the product- that's gotta count for something.

I get the $79 Korean made leather chairs from Staples. My first one lasted for over 5 years and is still ultra-comfortable, but my fat **** just about wore through the seat and it looks like sin. The new one I got this year has padded armrests but it doesn't recline as far.

Be aware that the lumbar support can vary from chair to chair, even if they are the same model and look identical. I did a lot of chair-hopping to find the one that fit me best and it just so happened to be the cheapo. I was willing to spend more but the pricier chairs weren't as comfortable for me.

Same here....I got mine at Best Buy back in 1999 for about $80....most comfortable chair I have ever sat in.....granted it is a bit worn in the a$s part of the seat.....but it still feels like home to me......

....I took it apart and it looks like I might be able to re-weld the bracket....

I have a green vinyl chair I picked up at an auction or somewhere about 10 years ago. It has primer gray base, and looks like it is an old military office chair. There is not much vinyl left on the seat, foam is popping out of everywhere, there are no arm rest. After I've gotten up and down a few times there is a pile of little pieces of foam left on the floor under it.

I've went chair shopping several times in the last two years because I think I would really like arm rest and maybe something that looks a little better. But atlas I can't let go of this thing, nothing fits and feels as good as this ugly old thing. Not to mention the good times we have had, we make such a good team. I can not count how many spin wars and chair races this chair and I have won together! She has only flipped me once in the 10 years that I've been working with her.

I've sat in this same old wooden hard bottom kitchen table chair with no padding for as long as I've had a computer. That would be about ooohh...SIX YEARS!

That's sad Bill, I hope you can recover from your profound grief somehow. They probably have therapy for something like this.

Update!

Well...I dropped off the bracket that was broke with one of our maintenance guys yesterday afternoon...He indicated that he would most likely be able to fix the fracture along the main weld.....so....

My old green got a face lift this last weekend.
While I was gone to North Carolina this last weekend, wife got board and reupholsted it in blue denim for me.

So much more comfortable, looks nice, and no more foam mess on the floor. Still no arm rests, but she will likely be my chair for atleast another five or ten years now.
