It's ussaully a lot further back than 10 feet behind the towed vehicle. You have to remember how wide these things bodies are, a vehicle has to be less than 8.5 wide at it's widest point. Otherwise you have to get oversize load permits and have a lead and tail vehicle. So that means that the mirrors are no more than 8.5' apart from one side to the other. Since the body is 7' + wide, that doesn't give them much room to get out to see behind.

Can't say I've seen a motorhome that large but sounds about right to me. Also remember there's probably at least 10 feet from the back just to the rear of that SportTrac.
I'd have to actaully sit in one to know what I'm talking about.

Done some research to back myself up. I wasnt real sure on the measurements. But yea seems there are some wide bodies over 102" wide (8" 6") But there is some loop hole for them.

They have a motor home, they're old, they're not paying attention to anything except the dead bug on their wildshield

since when do you tow a 4X4 with all four wheels on the ground?...maybe this sport track was a 2wh drive, even so for long distance towing, I would remove the drive shaft, or put the truck on a trailer.

Yeah, it also said that it ground through the axle housing because it was leaking.

That's what I said earlier.
I wont even tow a 2wd with the drive tires on the ground.

my uncle tows a jeep Cherokee behind his RV. the reason he got a jeep is because it has a manual transfer case and he can put it in neutral. he hasn't had any problems yet.

Yep, the manual transfer case is what you have to have to tow any vehicle with an automatic trans on its driving wheels. Putting an auto trans in neutral and towing will burn it up. The oil pump in the trans is on the input (engine) side and not on the driveshaft. You'll be turning the trans with no oil. Manual transmissions and transfer cases will tow fine in neutral since they will be turning in oil from either direction.

I still say a trailer is easier on the vehicle and cheaper in the long haul.
