We got a couple cans of Pringles Prints potato chips.
If you have a trivial mind and enjoy filling it with useless trivial facts, these things can be a lot of fun to eat.
One thing I learned and found interesting from this first can of chips is that the fastest birds recorded speed in flight was 186 mph.
But the stupid potato chip did not tell me what bird this was!
Upon searching the internet, I have found several claiming some birds to clock over 200 mph in dives. And some with a cruising speed of 100 + mph. but I can not find anything with the fastest recorded flying speed.
Anybody here bird watch or know what the fastest flying bird is?
The fastest recorded speed in dive or otherwise would be cool.

The peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus) is the fastest living creature, reaching speeds of at least 124 mph and possibly as much as 168 mph when swooping from great heights during territorial displays or while catching pry birds in midair.

I've seen a bunch of peregrine falcons, but mostly just hovering over nests while we passed them in the boat. I watched a Discovery special on them where a "pet" peregrine dove along side of a parachuter. The guy in the parachute was travelling at a certain speed, and the peregrine dove past him, leaving him in the dust. I believe they said the speed at which the peregrine was going was in excess of 200mph, but I can't remember the exact numbers.
That is crazy!
I never gave it much thought, but never would have guessed any animal could travel that fast.
The sites I was finding said that the peregrine falcon was belived to be the fastest. One said that
I don't know if I belive the second report or not, but there are enough other reports on other sites talking about the speed of the peregrine falcon. So that one could be true.

In 1938 an American newspaper published a report from a pilot who was nose-diving at 170mph. The speed of his plane wasn't exceptional. What was remarkable was that he was passed by a diving peregrine stooping on some ducks "as though the plane was standing still". In 1955 another observer used a stop-watch to record the speed of needletail swifts crossing a valley in the Cahar Hills of Assam. The valley was two miles broad and the birds took between 32.8 and 41.8 seconds to traverse it. Thus the fastest speed was 219.5mph
I live close to birds of pray recreational area on the snake river. I have a small video of a falcon hitting another bird in mid air, taken while fishing last fall. It dosn't show the speed but it is close enough to get a good idea of how fast they can go. Can any of you computer folks tell me how to put it on this websight?
