Not all that bad really. Once the aftermarket folks have a positive displacement blower for it like a whipple or Eaton then this thing will be okay. Still not as cool as my Lightning, obviously, but neat nonetheless. Trying to push my buddy into getting one for this daily/tow vehicle.

They're saying it's 'quicker' than the other SRT-8s. I find that hard to believe past the 0-60 mark. There's a few bone stock 300C SRT-8s around the country running 12.5 - 12.6s @ 110 +. One guy named Brent races his at Atco.

It's great to see V8 muscle remaining in the mainstream of modern vehicles. The CSRT-8 is next on my list.

it is a neat idea, but they should have waited and applyed it to the Commander.
The GrandCherokee (WJ ???) is an awesome off road vehicle compared to other stock vehicles, and they should leave it as an off-road vehicle. The Commander on the other hand, is actually built more for the street. The commander and SRT would make a nice combo.

The grandcherokee is the biggest pile of crap ever made.
I am still recovering from all the mishaps of one.
2000 Limited v8 4x4 quadra drive.
More drive lines than I care to count, few front diffs, several rearends, few transfer cases, batterys, sunroof, tranny, ac pump, driver seat motor, over heating problems, starter, fuel pump, and more. All with only 44,000 miles. Go ahead and tell me I had a lemon....the dealer said all that was normal for a jeep.
Got rid of it and back in a lincoln last year.....best move I ever made.

Strange wifes jeeo (1999 Limited) just hit 104,000 not a problem except for some minor electrical problems

My 87 Cherokee (course this was AMC)
Sold it 3 weeks ago and miss it.
Best 4wd system I have ever had!
I drove it for 5 years. Sold it with 200,000 miles
Needed head gasket or head work, but still pulled it's self home, up and down major mountain foot hills, about 100 miles, in 100º F summer heat, back to the driveway, "after it blew up". Then still pulled it's self out of the driveway and to the new owners house, 15 miles away and he is driving it blown. He just adds water and oil every couple of days.
I'll defiantly drive another one!
The thing to watch for when looking at any jeep to buy is the transfer case. Make sure it has the manual transfer case with the following configuration.
4WD H (High)
4wd PT (Part Time)
2WD
N
4WD L (Low)
If it has that transfer case you will never have any trouble out of anything. But if it only has
4WD PT
4WD L
Or any auto 4wd system
Do not get it!
The Grand Cherokee is a soccer mom ride anyway the 4wd is only designed to be used to pull it's self out of the ditch, not to be driven in 4wd. Uness it has the good 4 position transfer case, then can be driven on the road in (PT) below 45 mph. A regular Cherokee is more utilitarian and better built. It's made around the 4wd! Instead of the 4wd made for the vehicle.
Here is what happens in the automatic 4wd systems. Your driving down the road at 45 mph (it's not "suppose" to engage above 45mph) but your driving 45 mph in town in the middle of summer. You hit a slick spot of oil or water that you would not notice in any vehicle, but the auto 4wd senses it so engages. By the time it engages the tires are back on solid pavement and you are in 4wd. Solid impact directly on the entire drive line, few times of this all year long every year and things break.
Now for the SRT8,
First impression = It's fast
However... I hate the rear view, I hate the stance, and I hate the ride height!
With the power to weight ratio, in less than ideal driving conditions it's going to be helpless. Yea it'll get down the 1/4 mile in a hurry, but it won't get you to work in the winter.
I'd like to drive one once on the strip, but over all it is a disgrace to the Jeep name. Daimler Chrysler has more than enough street/strip performance vehicles. Did have a nice off road vehicle once up on a time too. I don’t know why they are trying to change their off road models over to performance. They are going to "perform" themselves out of the off road market all together.

You hit it exactly on the 4wd system. And I only had the 4.7v8. I would imagine the big hemi would break stuff in a hurry.
I switched from a 96 eddiebauer explorer to the jeep in 2000. My old eddie bauer pushed snow over the hood several times and never let me down...it made that jeep look like crap.

The main difference is that the HD has a remote cooler.
I don't know why it was not even an option in a V8 in 1999.
They are able to take 1486 lbs.-ft of torque which I'm sure the stock V8 is not putting that much out. If I'm not mistaken the 4.7L is actually putting out less Torque than the 4.0 I6.
It's been over a year since I messed with the Jeep that I had, but if I'm not mistaken both had an internal fluid pump just like a mini transmission. I know this is true for the HD. Which allowed it to run down the road in 4 high for any given distance at virtually any speed with out fear of the transfer melting down. At 70 mph, Hubs maybe, but not the transfer. 
If I had one other that NV242 series, then I would expect it to burn up with in the first year with me. Soon as it did I would be at the salvage yard getting an NV242 hopefully LD out of another Jeep or also an option for the Durango. Along with a console, shifter, and linkage from a Jeep to convert it.

The current model (WK) was unveiled last year. All-new from the ground up, the award-winning 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee is the best Grand Cherokee ever. Besides three new full-time four-wheel-drive systems, two new transfer cases, all-new independent and front suspension, rack and pinion steering (Jeep firsts), and an all-new five-speed transmission...
I'll wait a while before I judge the new drivetrain components. Hopefully they'll do better this time around. It seems unfair to assume that they would throw this much HP at a drivetrain that hasn't been able to hold it's own under less stress.

Actually until 1 year 3 months and 1 day ago I was shopping for a Dodge not a Ford.

Now that I've had this one, I would buy another one today!
I have actually yet to own a daimler product.
I really like a few.
The Jeep I had didn;t qualify becasue it was actually an AMC, so it was a Chevy, Ford, and Dodge with a Jeep badge.
