Hey all, my first trip here

I'm test driving a 1997 F150 XLT 4x4 later today, and am looking for some info/advice. It has 150,000 miles on it - which scares me a bit, it has the weenie V6 with an automatic - but it's sweet!

I've been perusing the web and finding comments ranging from the 200,000 miler who still loved theirs, to the 78,000 miler who said it was nothing but junk from Day 1.

What (besides the obvious truck buying stuff) should I be sure to look at? Is there really a chronic problem with head gaskets on this truck?

Thanks for any advice/recommends.

Hey, welcome to F150Online.com, first of all. Since I am the same guy who posted on that other site about my brother and his pool route truck, I really have no advice to offer you. However, welcome.

In that it has 150,000 on it, I'd be inclined to believe it was a 200,000 miler rather than a 78,000 day one junker.

Of course, my purchase price would reflect 150,000 miles also.

That was pretty much my way of thinking too. Most of our vehicles have 200k+ on them, but normally we put the second k on them.

Little late to the party, you have probably already drove it, and bought it or not. I think you've pretty well got it under wraps though.

Welcome to the site!
This is by far hands down the best F150 site on the net!
Anything that you might could come up with, atleast 1 of the other 88,000 members has had, seen it, or heard about it too.

Welcome

I have no advice to offer since my 2000 only has 30,000 miles on it. It's always started and got me where I was going!!
