So Many Choices

So what do you guys think.... I’m having a tough time deciding.

1. Take my 82 Audi to a mechanic and have it fixed. This is the first car I owned back in high school so it would be cool to have it running again. Its been sitting for 6yrs and so far I've put like $400 into fixing it myself but it's still won't work properly. Definitely a fuel delivery problem at the least. Manual Transmission is a plus. Little to no resale value.

2. Fix up the 95' Contour in my driveway. It has a blown head gasket or perhaps a blown head. Aside from that, I know this car to be working but it would be like $1000-$1500 to repair. Automatic....Boo. Belonged to my Ex girlfriend so I don't think my current girlfriend likes it.

3. Ditch them both and spend $1500-$2000 on a used Escort, another Contour etc?

I need a daily driver so I need to make a decision. With winter here, it's probably unlikely I'll have time to fix anything myself.

I think you ditch them both and buy a used honda accord. I bought an accord for 1200 bucks. It has a 5 spd and is very reliable. It's all about looking. I looked for 2 months and drove about 25 cars out of the classifieds. This one doesnt look good but runs perfect. It even had a new clutch installed 1 month before i bought it. The clutch shifts smoother than my uncles 04 ranger. I put about 250 miles on it a week ad only cost me about 25 bucks. 25 bucks in my one fitty would get me about 150 miles. Hondas are very reliable. They are also pretty quick. My 88 accord will stomp by gf's 05 civic

Does she like trucks? Can she drive a stick? Get her a 94-95 4 cyl ranger with a 5 speed. They make autos too just in case. I had a 94 2wd Ranger with the 2.3L/5spd and I gave that truck pure hell and it still wouldn't die. It worked flawlessly until I sold it in 2001 for $3500. I'd assume they'd be a little cheaper these days. Just an idea? Good luck.

No, it's not for her dude.

Anyway, I currently have 4 vehicles and only the F150 runs. At 14Mpg, I need a good milage car for thr 15 mile drive to work and/or the 20 mile drive to my girlfriend's house.

I'd consider a Honda, but I'd really perfer to stick to something American.

Get a used escort. They're fairly cheap and reliable. And get good mpg. I looked on the Edmund's.com website, and a 1999 Escort 4dr LX was going for about $3700 at the dealers in my area. Any particular year your interested in?

Edit:

Used 97 base model Escort 4dr sedans are going for about $2300.

Engine for the 97 model: 2.0L
MPG: 26/34 for the auto, 28/36 with the stick

Edmund's.com user's gives it a 7.6 rating for reliabilty. Not to shabby for an older car.
