Not if you're shooting Glaser safety slugs.

Nothing personal, topgun, you just can't convince me that bigger is always better, especially in close combat.
I do use glaser even in small calibers in the house.

I agree with the entire post accept it should say "IF" you miss.
Accidents do happen, but I don't ever expect not to hit when I squeeze the trigger or I wouldn't squeeze it.

Practice practice and when you're done, practice some more. The best world class weapon and ammo in the world does not do any good with out it. IMO

In my Walther P99 I carry Eldorado Starfire 165gr.
I also heard good reports of Golden Sabre, Ranger SXT and HydraShock.
For those living in states where hollowpoints are a no no, Federal FMJ expanding point is good.
Reliability is the top concern. Spend some $$ on boxes of the carry ammo of your choice and practice.

I keep a walther P22 in the bedroom, just for that reason (kids)
I don't want to kill the burglar, kids, and a neighbor, just the burglar. Last thing he'll ever see will be a small red dot and a real small muzzle flare
