yeah yeah....The cowboys have already exceeded my expectations this year.. I knew we were going to have it tough against the broncos. I didnt think we would have held our own like we did. It was a very exciting game to say the least.

I may be a little late to the game here but....

I don't know how many plumbers there are here but I know there is at least one. Me.

I think that the advice given is good advice. The one thing that I would add is that if you replace the diverter tub spout you may or may not have an easy time finding a replacement. See, most of the time the replacement diverter tub spouts you get from the hardware/home center are the type where the threads are right at the wall, that is the connecting threads will be sticking out from the wall about a quarter of an inch. You may find that when you take the spout off that there is a piece of copper pipe with a male adapter or a brass nip (piece of brass pipe with threads on both ends) that from the wall to the end measures about four inches. If this is the case you may need to go to the plumbing supply to get the proper spout. I believe McGuire is the brand that our plumbing suppliers carry. It'll be more than six bucks but they are generally good quality.

There are actually a couple reasons thoes things sieze up. Deposits are probably the most common. If the entire spout, that is including the diverter piece that blocks the flow at the spout, is metal then deposits are the cause. If the diverter piece is plastic then there is probably a rubber gasket that may have come loose and stuck between the diverter and the body of the spout. You could try to put the gasket back but it'll probably just come off again.

If we got this call you would end up spending about seventy bucks to get it fixed. That's actually pretty cheap in this state. In the eastern part they are getting eighty, nintey bucks an hour plus materials. If you can get this fixed for twenty, thirty bucks, your doing ok.

Good luck!

I'm definatly not a plumber, just a home owner who has never hired one.

Our Lowes does have both styles in either vadium or brass finish as well as plastic or all metal construction. When I took mine off it was just a steel 6" nipple with thread tape, so if I had too I would have just put a pipe wrench on it to take that one off and put a 4" nipple to replace it for the flush mount.
But if it would have been cooper that would be better, I'd just cut it and sweat a new fitting on.

It does help to be mechanical minded when doing vehicle, house maintenance repairs and a dam good set of tools. I am a welder by trade, and I do 99% of my work. just that 1% that drives me nutz. I love taking things apart and seeing how they work.

as far as that bath spigot goes, mine did the same thing, it is just the pull lever, and a plastic fitting that covers the pipe for the bathtub so the shower works. unscrew it, pull it down, clean it and reassemble. (if it is like mine)
