Titan Test Drive
Ok, some will want to bash me in and others will just see me as being open for options.
My wife has a 2002 Pathfinder and we love it. It’s really been a good vehicle.
I’ve always liked Fords though, the styling, etc., even though every Ford I’ve owed had irritating flaws fresh off the showroom floor, like rattles, miss-aligned doors, paint bubbles, etc.
So we get a VIP flyer from the Dealership where we got the Pathfinder. They offered 110% Trade-In based on Kelly Blue Book.
I paid a little under 20k for my 2005 F150 XL brand spanking new. KBB shows $19700 (only 2300miles). Great, I’m thinking $21,670 (110%). For all you math wizards out there that’s almost 2k more than I paid. Impossible, you never make a profit working with the dealer, but that’s what the flyer said.
So I go down there in the cold and talk turkey. Turns out when I had them run the numbers they were giving me $15330 for trade-in. What happened to the KBB $19.7k? They showed me the printout. Went home and figured out that they were giving numbers for XL Reg Cab Short Bed, instead of my Supercab. Slick dealer trick or honest mistake? You make the guess.
So what’s up with the test-drive?
Well since the Titan is similar in size I had to compare.
Drove it. Tons more power than my 4.6L. Almost felt like a hot-rod. The rear doors (Scab) were more solid than the Ford. I didn’t like the interior though. Can’t put my finger on it, but it just wasn’t right. I heard more road noise than in my Ford (and I don’t even have carpeting). I also didn't like the exterior styling of the Titan. The F150 sits a little higher I think too.
Leaving the Dealership I felt comfortable in my F150 compared to the pricier Titan. I’m sure the Titan is a good truck (I've read horror and success stories on both) and many like it. I just like the overall styling and feel of my Ford better.
Looks like it’s back to the MOD wish list.

Remember: Theres no free lunch.
I had similar feelings when I was shopping around for my new truck. I had to go drive a Titan before I placed my order for my Ford since they were getting good reviews from the truck mags. I have to say that at the time, if the Titans looked at least a little better inside and out I may have bought one. The motors and trannys work great, but the rest of the styling and quality of feel is subpar compared to the Fords. Looking back on it, I don't regret buying the 05 FX4 at all, just hearing about the problems that Titan owners are having. One of my coworkers knows someone who works for a lawfirm that represents Nissan. The lawfirm has been really hurting lately because they have been loosing a lot of cases because of the Titans and Armada's.
I just wish my engine/tranny combo worked as good as the Titan... (throttle response, better gear spacing and selection). I really think Ford needs to look into developing a 5-speed auto for the F-150 (or just pull the 6-speed auto out of a Navigator and dump it into the 150)
Just my .02

Whenever they offer a "special" deal on trade-ins, they're going to get their money somehow. Whether it's playing with the trade money or tacking onto the new truck, you're generally not gonna make out on trade-in value.
You traitor! I know you came back home, but for even thinking of it......
Someone, right now (many hundreds actually), is getting screwed by a dealer and thinking they are getting the deal of a lifetime. A deal too good to be true is just that.

Shame on you for even thinking about trading the world's best truck for some Jap Crap. Thats what you get, a lowball trade-in figure. Something you should realize, dealers will say or do ANYTHING to get a customer in the door, and once they are there and the euphoria of a new car, and all that shiny new stuff... the customer 75% of the time forgets what was promised to them. Car buying is a very emotional decision. You gotta leave emotion out of it... just a tip from an insider.
EDIT: Oh yeah, this should be moved to General soon.

Sometimes you have to enter the dark side to really appreciate what you own. Just do do it to often

When I was ready to upgrade from my '97 Mountaineer to my '05 F-150, I didn't even think about the Titan, and my plant builds the frames for them. I just felt that the Ford was more refined, and definitely quieter. I remember a lot of the quality problems when we first launched the Armada and Titan, and to a certain extent they still happen. Concidering that Nissan gets the better people to assemble the vehicles and the lower tier suppliers get the leftovers, that Nissan wants its suppliers close, and I know the work ethic of the group of Mississippians who do the manual labor, I won't be buying a Mississippi-made vehicle for a while. It's not like Ford, GM, or DC, or even Nissan in Smyrna or Toyota where the people working the line are actually willing to work and keep the same job for multiple years; we have high turnover rates in manufacturing down here.
When I went looking for trucks I had no want for a Titan but figgured I may as well drive one just to get a feel for diffrent trucks. When I went to the dealer and looked at them up close I definatly hated the looks of the truck. Even worse though when we were ready to go on the drive I grabed the drivers door handle and pulled it right off the truck
.
I handed it to the sales guy and told him thanks for re-confirming that I wanted a F-150 and left

I must say sadly that I considered heavily getting a Titan before I purchased my FX4 Screw. Definitely more power but less ride and good looks. I almost let one of my friends talk me into the extra speed in a matter of minutes but instead I listened to my raising and bought a Ford!
untill nissan builds a reg cab, 8 ft box 1/2 ton truck...and drasticly lowers thier price, Ford is a wee bit safe...On the net I checked out GM canada's web site....you can buy a stripped down 06 chevy 1/2 ton 4x4 for under twenty five thousand...4.3 and 5sp...For nissan to dominate, they have to go to the work truck buyer, not even Ford in Canada can price match GM...who ever builds the $$$ less truck is going to win.
felt like a hotrod because the truck overall is lighter. The F150 frame alone weighs twice what the titans does. I feel that my family is safe when we are in my truck...look at the titans interior...you can tell its cheap made...stay away from jap stuff please
