Best and worst in Reliability

The Toyota Tundra and the new Honda Ridgeline earned the top Ratings. The redesigned 2005 Toyota Tacoma V6 rated just average, but the four-cylinder Tacoma was above average. The Nissan Titan dropped from average and is now in the worst list. The Ford F-150 continued to score below average.

Our 2005 reliability survey, the largest of its kind, reached a milestone this year—we've gathered responses on more than 1 million vehicles from Consumer Reports and ConsumerReports.org subscribers, the most we've ever received. These results underpin the most comprehensive reliability data you will find anywhere. Here, we give you a first look at our new Predicted Reliability Ratings for new cars, based on this survey, and the models that we expect to be the most and least reliable.

A year ago I would have agreed with you 100%. But I've been burnt badly by my 04 and Ford Customer Service in general. After a year of ownership and a pile of problems it is hard not to question reliability. I know Ford can make good cars and even good F-150's but mine has been a service nightmare.

My F150 has been pretty flawless, but I must admit ugly or not honda makes a good vehicle.

I tend to agree I drive a F150 & Expedition even though I can buy Toyota's at dealer cost, no more Toyotas for me! Toyota has the worst service departments (several dealers) I have ever been to they have a attitude it's a Toyota if something is wrong with it you the owner must have caused it, mine spent 28 out of 31 days in 1 month at the dealer for a water leak Lemon Lawed it, of several other minor problems they never once fixed anything on their 1st attempt 2 or more trips to service every time.

My fathers best friend is a service manager for a Toyota dealership and he won't drive a Toyota. He does have an 94 Supra but he has said he wouldn't buy new again.

I have owned a 2000 Chevy Silverado, 2002 Toyota Tundra, and a 2005 F-150 and the Toyota build quality and service department was the best I have seen. I did however have a brake recall but they gave me new brakes even with a full long travel kit on that was not completely bolt on.

Prior to the new F-150 the Tundra had the highest front impact rating of any full size truck. That is saying a lot because the Tundra is far smaller than most full size trucks.

I gave Ford the finger in 2002 and bought a Tundra Limited Access Cab. That thing was no better than any Ford and it got 10mpg on a good day. I put 35000 miles on it in 9 months. I had the brake recall, multiple stereo failures, a small fire under the dash, an o2 sensor failure and an ABS light that stayed on for no apparent reason. Toyota was good in the 80's but they have turned in to the GM of Japan. Now they are playing their Hybrid card which have well known quality problems and get no better mileage in real world driving. But by the year 2015 they are supposed to own 20% of the global market.

The only real quality automaker these days is Honda. My sister has an Accord, my step father and mother both have Pilots and all of them are capable, comfortable, refined, and rock solid. they do exactly what they were designed to do and they do it very well. If they made a V8 powered pickup or Pilot that could tow and haul 5 people, I'd gladly overpay to own one in a hurry.
