Speaking of boats!
I need to build a garage so I can work on mine!
I finally got off my lazy ****, pulled myself away form here for a few hours last night, braved the cold and the dark to finally winterized mine. Froze my butt off too!
I'm worried, becasue it has sat for about 2 months and I almost didn't get the lower unit to trim down for me. It was almost out of fluid (which I dont have a small enough funnel to fit that 8mm hole, so it is a pain in the **** to try and fill for me.) but I can't find a leak in the system anywhere. So where did it go?
Did I mention that I need a garage with lights and and a heater?

Where do you live? I could build you a nice finished off garage and maybe Brew could come help "supervise" me while i wire it. Ha.

Matt....do you have the plastic bottle underneath the pump? Alot of those cracked on the backside and the fluid would leak out just a little at a time. You prolly woint see the fluid unless you pull the whole thing up and look under it. Its just a quess, but Ive seen that alot. The other thing, is that maybe the seal on the cap is bad, and last time you ran, it built pressure and blew the fluid out. Its hard to see, since theres really not a lot in that bottl in the first place. But , yeh..in a heated garage with light would be helpfull. As for filling it, you need to get the cap for the bottle of fluid thats pointed like a funnel. Its sealed when new, so you can cut it to a certain lenght depending on what size hole you need. Or, just get a piece of clear hose that fits in the fill hole, and attach that to the bottle of fluid and fill it that way. Lemme know if you need one of the little funnel caps, I can send you one.

Oh man, wait til Trytokeepup reads this. I can hear him now " See, I told you guys Brew always turns it into a boat discussion"

I live in Misery, (Missouri) I'm looking at a 25'x40' pole barn for a shop.
it has 3 garage doors two on one end and the third on the opposite end for a pull thru bay. The building isnt very expensive $3200, comes with wiring breaker box, but no plumbing. I can build it, wire it, and plumb it. BUT... the cost is the $5K for the cement floor and to top that off I have to have the forms built and be here when they pour it becasue they don't work it. They just pour it.

So now the cheap shop is now $10K and thats if I am able to be here to do all the work myself.

No I dont have one of those bottles, the pump is mounted on the transom behind the port side jump seat about 4" off the floor.
It uses motor oil, does that funnel cap fit a 1 qt oil bottle? I am using Motorcraft of course.
The hole is the size of a #10 screw. I've looked for a stinking fill cap. But there is non, and this is the largest screw on the top, it has an over sized head and gasket. That is the only place that I have found to fill it. There is a second one that is a little smaller that I remove to allow air. Makes for a loooong drawn out process. There is now oil underneath the pump on my nice new carpet! But that's what I spiiled when filling it. (arrrg) There was non when I started! (double arrg)

When I opened it there was alot of air pressure that was released. So that seal may be teh problem, I will replace that little cloth gasket on the fill screw and see if that will seal it up.

Hey Matt, buy that barn and me and Trytoo will come help you build it.

Yes, the little funnel caps do fit a quart bottle. I'll round some up and let you know. Shoot me an email with your address and I'll send them to you if you want.

Sorry 'bout that, I forgot what trim system you had. Hmm, just check everything real good, all the lines and the connections at the trim rams themselves. Ive seen them leak alot to when the ram starts to pit and corrode away right where the lines screw in. Good Luck..Lemme know if you need anything.

Brew, you've got mail.

I don't have any extra rooms, but we have extra matresses and an air matress, couch is always open and is comfortable, so are the recliners, or lots of open living room floor.
When I get it, you guys can come down or over. We can have it up in a couple days then we'll jump in the truck and head over to STL to meet up with Bill for that party!

On the trim I don't see any spots where it was parked and the lines are clean. Old so I have inspected them trying to decide if I should replace them. But they are clean and look fine. No rust, or bulging, or fluid, or anything on the outside.
There is one weak spot where a hard plastic line runs up to the throttle assembly (or what ever it is called on the back of the engine.) I think it's for... heck I have no idea. It is hooked to waht looks like a micro switch activated by the throttle. Maybe a saftey so it has to be in netutral before you use the trailer trim or something???? I don't know. The switch had been disconnected at some point before i got it, so I'm guessing it wasn't that important. LOL

Anyway that line broke when I had to pull the engine and I spliced it with a brass compression fitting. I need to just replace the whole line. Maybe I can investigate further this weekend in day light.

Matt, that micro switch is an interupter switch. Its designed to cut out half of the engine when you shift out of gears. Its to help reduce the torque on the gears and the clutch dog in the lower unit to make it easier to get out of gear. Most of the time, it doesnt work right and just causes the engine to stall when you shift it. Thats why most guys just disconnect it.

Oh yeh...all I need is a blanket and a pillow, lay me next to the fire and im set

That's good to know, now I'm not worried about hooking it back up.

We've got plenty of blankets, lots of pillows and a big fireplace. Your welcome here anytime.

What part of missouri? Hell thats not as far as Jersey from Iowa haha. Damn, if the weather would permit yet this year i coulda taken a vacation downt there and helped ya out. We could pour the cement ourselves. Even though ive done enough cement work for the year im sick of it haha. Framing it would be pretty simple. You just need the superviser (Brew) to watch over us....and bring us beer....thats right brew..you would qualify for the beer biatch.

Well its 11:30 and i need to get back outside making cabinets. I cant quit yet...i can still see.

I may need someone to come help especially with the cement. I've never worked with it I have no idea how to do it. Pretty sure I can handle building a box and surfacing. But how to support it, rebar or wire, how to lay the rebar or wire. Etc etc etc. Yea I dont have a clue, it'll be cracked with in a year if it's left totally up to me to do.

I don't know where you are exactly but I know I am a six hour drive from Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. That was the first trip the 150 made 3 weeks after I bought it.

Y'all are getting together and having a party and I didn't even get an invite?? After offering to make it up to you for the forgotten Birthday and everything! That's the thanks I get...that hurts my poor little feelings...sniff...

Hey, I could help!! I helped my dad pour cement for the foundation for their new kitchen!! Actually we had a cement truck deliver and all I did was direct the chute but I did a good job!! The cement ended up in the forms and not all over the ground!!

Cement is definetly a touchy thing. You will probably want it power troweled smooth for your garage floor too. Hmm....i wonder if stick framing it would be cheaper. We are building a 26x30 garage now. I should see what its going to end up costing them.

What town are you from if you dont mind me asking? Mt. Pleasant is a long ways away from me so maybe we are closer. Heck, if you give me your exact address Brew and i would beable to stalk you from our own computers and see into your back yard.

P.S. i cant tell you how either...its Tom and I's secret
