Chevy Question

Okay, when I see vehicles driving around, I look at the stickers on the sides. So far, this is what I have gathered:

Ford's FX4 = Chevy's Z71 = Dodge's TRX4

With that said, what does Z28(which I've seen on Camaros) and Z66(Avalanche) stand for?

Thanks.

As with z71 and fx4...they are order codes for packages from the factory.

the Chevy "Z" was/is simply the code for some sort of special package. It's been used since the 60's on everything from trucks to Vette's.

KC-10 FE out...

Snip for a gm site...

In the meantime the bureaucratic workings at Chevrolet had already assigned a Regular Production Option code to what they were calling the Special Performance Package. Apparently, RPO Z27 had been assigned to the SS although it didn't appear under that option until 1969, and the new option was assigned the next number, Z28. It is not known when the decision was made to use the RPO code for the name, but probably not until after the first cars were built.

I don't have the full description for each, but basically here's what they mean.
Z28 was a performance package on the camaro. This meant more back when they first came out back in the 60's and early 70's. I believe it also included some body hardware...different tires/wheels. In the last generation of camaro....before they became extinct...Z28 was the only camaro with a V-8 which was a 5.7L. If it wasn't a Z28 it had a V-6. There was also an SS camaro during the last few years which had a little bit more power, and unique styling package.

The Z66 package on the Avalanche is an On-road package. I know it includes a load leveling suspension, but other than that I don't know. If you care to research it further go here...www.chevyavalanchefanclub.com.

Actually I don't. I need to start it up this weekend and move it around some. I will grab a few then for ya. I just drove it in 97 when I got it, and it has been garaged ever since. I was kinda thinking it may be worth something one day.

If it has white leather than it has the 30th Aniv Package on it. The stripes should be orange though. All 97s have 30th Aniv logos on the dash.

Red Lariat if you ever want to sell yours I would be seriously interested...thats exactly the kind of car I am looking for. I want a low mile, original. Is yours a 6spd or an auto?

Here are a few of the rarer F-Bodies I have had over the years:

My 88 GTA Trans Am:

My 98 Camaro SS

My 00 WS6 Convertible (one of 174 made):

Mine is the auto. If I had bought it, it would have been a 6 speed. But my dad got it for me for graduation in 97.
