2x4 Conversion?

I just got threw talking to a guy who had a 2x4 97 f150 exactly like mine. He said a solid axle is so much better, that is why he converted the 2x4 into a straight axle 4x4. I was wondering what all is involved in this. I have been thinking for a while now to get a new truck when I turn 16 because its not a 4x4, no lift kit, and a weak 4.6 liter. So what all is involved, is it worth doing, and just give me some ideas.

It would be downright impossible and retarded to attempt the ISF install on these trucks. A solid axle swap of a Dana 60 like on the 250/350s is a pretty common install on the 80-96 Dana 44/50 TTB 4x4 trucks. To do it on a 97+ would be possible if your fab skills are sharp. IE: top welding ability, being able to engineer a suspension, and lots of $$$. No doubt cheaper to just buy a common stock 4x4.

Well the whole reason why I was gonna do it was to save money and essentially have a nicer truck. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-...88027070QQrdZ1 Their goes one I found like mine, mine is just a two and a half door though.

I suspect that the truck you see is for sale because it's not driveable the way that he screwed it up. I'd guess he's trying to get out from under it and recoup some of his lost money. If it were everything he expected it to be, he'd be out mudding in it right now instead of trying to dump it on eBay.
