of these Dana 44 rearends in these trucks! This is Texas and people hook WAY too much weight to their trucks...kind of a tradition down here...and these Dana's flat won't take it. While the F150 has had the noisy rearend problems(my 04 included) I have never seen one cratered from any kind of abuse, it just flat doesn't happen. I'm sure the Titan is a hell of a truck but parts of it are way under-engineered was the point I was making.

I guess they'll do their own engineering going forward... If the problem is truly widespread, and not a case of some yahoo putting a 13,000 trailer behind a Titan, along with 2,000 lbs in the bed.
A Dana 60 is beefy enough to handle rear axle duties on a pickup. A Dana 44 isn't. 44's have been used as front axles on 4X4's and they do fine in that position. No extra heavy loads and they are in neutral 99% of the time.
Cia-Agent,
Do us all a favor, trade in your F-150 for a Titan since you speak so highly of them, and tell us what you think of it after a month or two. I'm willing to bet, the Titan will have as many problems if not more in 1 or 2 months then your 4 or 5 year old F-150 had its entire life. Up for the Challenge?

Besides, I know a thing or two about Ford trucks...
------------------
PS- if I had a Titan (Which I probably won't get, because my next car will probably be a luxury~ car) it's last just as long, and look just as good as my F-150, because I'd baby it, just like I baby her...
And, if you think it's ironic that a Ford owner could give respect where it'd due- try this on for size....

I've towed with them, and each one has been loaded to the gills; but, I take care of them... Anything I buy, unless it's a lemon from the factory; will hold up well.
Especially a Nissan or a Ford (Truck).

On a side note(not to start anything else up) I saw they (Titan Talk) has a section dedicated to just probelms.....wow!
I hate seeing anyone with car problems, because I know they feel like we do......spend 30+K for a truck and then to have problems with it just sucks.
Then again, the problem children always rise to the top and make the masses look bad too.

Titan was my first chioce over the f-150...If Nissan made them in a reg cab, with a 8 ft box, I would have bought one.....If nissan was to build a reg cab 8 ft box now, I would buy it over the f-150 I have now.

And, I still like the Titan; whether you think it's a POS, or not...
And the point of this thread was...?
I saw a few different roads this thread took. Towing capacity? I don't care who makes it, I'm not comfortable with 9000+ lbs behind any half ton pickup, so towing capacity is a moot point to me. Ford, GM, Dodge and Nissan's half ton pickups all do the same job in that regard to me. Right tools for the job and all.
Build quality? Nissan makes a fine automobile. From what I've heard (not experienced, so take what I say as you will), they've had quite a few teething problems, which isn't necessarily out of the ordinary for a first model year vehicle going up against the Big Three in the most competitive automotive market there is out there. Folks are passionate about their trucks, and Nissan's made a commendable effort in the Titan. They've just gotta go deep into heavily fortified Ford/GM/Dodge territory to start changing minds and selling more trucks. In regards to the (perceived) quality or lackthereof, I'm more inclined to trust a Titan owner or the guy at the Nissan dealer that puts wrenches to 'em day in and day out before any salesman or magazine writer when it comes to rating the truck's reliability and build quality.
