Internet Explorer problems...

Saturday I let windows do it's auto update here at work, and apparently it installed IE6 SP1 (I think SP1 is the latest). I have Windows 2000 Pro, and now when I open IE I just get an error, and it wants to know if I want to send a report, which I keep doing figuring if it happens enough maybe they'll do something...

So, for now I'm limited to surfing via Outlook, which freezes for about 10-20 seconds when I try open anything that requires a sepearate window, then gives me the same error trying to open IE does...

Is there anyway to downgrade IE? or am I stuck until Microsoft comes up with a fix?

http://www.firefox.com

I have been using it for years and it's much faster/more reliable. PLease do yourself a favor and get it. I only use IE to visit sites where the programmers are too stupid to make the site IE/Netscape compatible. PLease, for the love of God, get Firefox.

Well, to even download anything right now. I would have to download the install file on another computer... I might end up trying it though. One of the guys here has it on his laptop, and seems to like it...

I'll take a look...

As for the event log, can you tell me how to find it in IE?

thanks...

Start -> Run
Type: sfc /scannow
Click OK
Follow the prompts
Reboot when System File Checker completes

Honestly. Give it a try. It could be a number or problems. Probably a bad library. This should fix it.

Same here and no complaints.
closer9, you might want to disable that auto update option also.

EDIT: very funny. Someone took out the stupid programmer statement I wasnt offended.

ha ha. Thats me alright.

Its not a matter of being stupid though. FF doesnt support some of the tag attributes that IE does.

I try to be good when writing cross browser apps. Most people dont because 95% of most people that visit our site are in IE.

FF has more overhead as it caches alot more. It even caches JS. Not something I would want a browser to do.

They are both good browsers. I like IE because its integrated into the Filesystem.
