Tropical Storm Alpha (New Record!)

The 22nd named storm of the season has developed off the coast of the Dominican Republic:
-------------------------

Early Sunday, Tropical Storm Alpha reached the Dominican Republic, where days of heavy rain have already swollen rivers and saturated the soil. Forecasters warned that deadly flash floods and mudslides were possible.

Officials used the Greek alphabet to name Tropical Storm Alpha — the record-setting 22nd named storm of the Atlantic season — after running all the way through the 2005 storm name list.

Dominican authorities evacuated some 8,000 people from the capital and elsewhere.

Associated Press writers: Israel Leal in Cancun; Vanessa Arrington in Pinar del Rio, Cuba; Jose P. Monegro in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; and David Royse in Key West, Fla.; contributed to this report.

Some people blame 'global warming" for this, and some say the world is going through a cycle again that last anywhere from 20-40 years long!

Myself, I don't know whats to blame, but all I know, its really messing this world up big time, and were all paying for it.

Myself, I blame Triton. When he hit his garage it knocked the Earth out of its normal orbit and discombulated the weather patterns.

I've been informed that the cause of this unusually violent weather is the Japanese using Russian technology in the magnetosphere and ionosphere to create these events. It's retaliation for the atom bombs.

Have you seen this?

I guess it's possible that these occurences are man made, though I am HIGHLY scepticle. I believe that Mother Nature (figurative!) is the great equilizer. We humans feel so mighty and powerful untill she uleashes her power.

The Earth has been changing for billions of years. Human beings are not effecting this. The earth came out of an ice age and will prolly someday go back into one. Look at the history we are looking and comparing the weather with, we only have a couple of hundred years of history.

I argree, when some idiot claiming to be a specialist says "This has never happened before." I think how do you know? do you have written weather history from 10,000 years ago? How about 5,000? I'm pretty sure that you don't have any from 2 million years ago or longer either. So how can you state that "This has never happened before."? Just hasn't happened that you know of since we've been keeping track. How long after we started keeping track was it before we coined the trem "hurricane"? What was the definition of teh severity before we started documenting wind speed. 100 years ago people thought that if we drove 50 mph that it would rip our face off. They did not know that wind could reach that fast.

WHAT!! that willl not happen.........I can use seckond gear now....But all those nice people honking and waving, i will never see them again.

I agree this is most likely a cycle that happens every several hundred years.

Just because it is not in current memory does not mean that it is unusual.

The last ice age started over a very sort time. Several dacades is the current thinking.
