Asia is Kicking Butt: (Appliances) ***LG***

Guys,
I know all of you aren't domesticates yet; and for those of you who are- you only have to worry about buying major appliances once every 10-20 years; but I was thinking about upgrading.

Currently, I have Kenmore appliances. Kenmore, if memory serves, is manufactured by either Whirlpool or GE. Whirlpool is #1 in the US in sales.

I went looking at some appliances to update my house, new dishwasher, stove, maybe a new built-in oven, new Fridge and new washer & dryer. I didn't know LG made that kind of stuff. Apparently they're new to the US, but has been building appliances, etc for over 50 years.

When it comes to exterior aesthetics, interior design, lighting- the LG refrigerator was kicking everyone's butt, followed closely by Samsung. Whirlpool Gold & GE-Profile were volleying for 3rd place honors. Moved over to teh front load waher & dryers, again; LG's are on point. Where Whirlpools uses plastic, the LG was metal, and- less expensive- even though made better.

They told me to stay away from Frigidaire because their appliances are B-S compared to, well, everybody else. I'm looking at a GE 36" drop-in smooth top stove, and a new over the range- microwave.

I'm not doing all this at once, but- since we're getting ceramic tile put down in our house, I figured a new dishwasher, drop-in and over-range microwave would be cool to have.

Does anyone know anything about LG appliances? I know they're number one in 20+ countries around the world, and coming on strong in the US. Anyone know anything about them?

Dont know squat but I know Kenmore appliance are built by a number of different companies. I have all Kenmore elite models but dang I'm glad I bought the warranties. Crap breaks down often enough. I only bought the top of the line appliances and they last as long as the cheapies

You know, that might be right. I remember when I bought the fridge for my first house, the guy told us the fridge we bought was comporable to the GE-Profile fridges, and maybe maybe 10% cheaper. That fridge is in my rent-house now... We still have the washer & dryer, and 9 years, 1 month later- they're still going strong. Our 5-year old new Kenmore fridge- ice maker went ****-up.

Bought the GE Profile refrigerator about a year ago. Really like it. Bought a new dishwasher about the same time, it is super quiet, but I can not remember the brand. LG is importing a lot of electronics now. Have an LG cell phone and LG DVD player. They have been big in Europe.

I'm not sure, but it seems like LG used to go by another name. I could be mistaken, and thinking of something else. But it seems like they merged or just did like Datsun back in '84...

I've heard some good things about them, but not much... Nothing bad though...

We ditched our Kenmore fridge for a Samsung about a year ago. The kenmore's shelves kept breaking (little cheapo ***** that hold the shelves). The Samsung is an awesome fridge. Our other appliances are Kenmore, wich we have no complaints over. Got a new washer and dryer about a year ago when the 18 year old Maytags died. Replaced with Maytag wich was complete CRAP. Finally got sears to take that POS back and got a mid range Kenmore. Works great and super quite.

Edit: oh, we considered the Lg fridge, but they didn't make a bisque that matched our kitchen. Samsung made one model.

Just remembered, the new dishwasher is a Kitchenaid. Good so far. Got the fridge and diswasher at Texas Appliance in Arlington, CIA, if they have one up your way, they are good to work with. We had tile floors put in in the kitchen and one bath. What a mess! Took us 2 months to recover from the dust, etc. Now we have had the windows replaced. Another mess.

They used to be Goldstar...

I have a 19" Goldstar TV that I bought in Germany Jan. 1989, it just died last week.

Very much ahead of it's time- cable ready, rabbit ears, rca jacks, multi-voltage... It was the Bomb...

Dead, after 16 years, 3 countries and 8 moves. Still has sound, but no picture.

Yeah- the guy told me Japan, and that's what I put in the header. I tried to change it to Asian; but it wouldn't let me.

Then, I looked at the History and saw their tie to Korea.

Boy, if Korea's cars & trucks were as good as their major appliances, we'd be onto something...

Kitchen Aid = Whirlpool (Think Toyota & Lexus, Whirlpool being Toyota.)

I've had an LG flip phone for over two years and it's been indestructible.

Holy Guacamole!

Those are some serious "Who wants to be a Millionaire" appliances...

I hear Sub-Zero was the siht a few years ago... Now I hear they are siht; same with Maytag....

But that Viking Range and fridge are both awesome.
I'm not trying to spend THAT kind of money Kobi. Thanks though!
