This is the difference between being self employed and being an employee getting paid an hourly or weekly wage. You can have one or the other. She should set her rates for the services she provides. sure she's self employed. And if this is part of her compernsation, you can pay it, or find daycare elsewhere. Free market economy.

Yea, but I'm sorry, if a holiday happens to fall on a Saturday, Intel doesn't tell me "Hey, I know you don't normally get paid for Saturday's but since this holiday is on a Saturday, I'm going to give you an extra day of pay." WTF is THAT? It's ludicrous! Yes, pay your regular 3 days that you would normally pay, do NOT pay any extra.
If the holiday fell on a day when the kids when normally be in daycare, then I say that would be a fair request. Since your kids are never in daycare on Monday, then that request is a little off base.
