Angry been towed?

okay so i got towed this weekend. i found out i got towed within minutes because of a friend. i had to go get my truck the next day, there was no way i was gonna leave it in that dump. my question for you all is there anything that they could have messed up while towing anything i should look for. it was a pretty shady looking company so i thought i'd play it safe. if any of you could also make a recommendation on how to get a refund for being towed that would also be appreciated. i was parked at my gf's apartment and the visitor spots were full. so i parked 1 over from the visitors and they towed me! anyways that is enough any help is greatly appreciated it.

ahh, the joys of apartment living. Sounds like they have quite a racket going on there. If you try to make waves or fight it, be prepared to be targeted by the people profiting from the shady towing racket. Sometimes you need to pick your battles.

Unless your girlfriend is moving out tomorrow, I'd probably be inclined to just pay it and minimize my losses.

I had that exact thing happen to me about 7 or 8 years ago. It was very much a pain in the ***. I parked in the spot next to the visitor parking. The thing that pissed me off was that some car or truck (forgotten now) was parked in the middle of two spaces and taking them both up. Had they not been stupid, I would have had a space (maybe). There was no visitor parking in the whole place, and even parking on the STREET was gone. Next day I had to get her out of hoc. I fought the apt complex for 3 months and FINALLY got my money back - but it took a while and a final threat to sue for the money since it was their negligence to not do the research and discover that half the spots in that whole place were never parked in because they were reserved for tenants. Interestingly enough, about two months later there was more visitor parking!!

Yep, I had an assigned parking space at my last apartment in North Dallas.
I pais $24.00/month for that space- but, because it was around the corner from my building, I rarely used it (Only when a severe thunderstorm or hail was a possibility); but, I doggone well expected it to be free & clear 24 hours a day.

Well, I was out walking my dogs, as I normally did- when I found a car in there. Not knowing where to even start looking for this person, I let it slide the first night. The next time I saw it, I put a note on their car, reminding them that this was assigned parking, and asked them not to park in my space anymore.

A couple days later, the same car was in my space. I started to bash out their windows, but what goes around, comes around- so I decided to go to plan B.

I went in my apartment, drew a picture of a car being towed, and I put a one-liner on there and said- "Next time, this will be you" and taped it to their windshield. I never saw that car at my apartment complex, nor did I ever see another car in my space- again...
************************************************** ****

Dallas has tow companies itching to tow your siht off...

My partner had an apartment in Killeen, TX that only allowed heads-in parking. If you backed into a parking space, they'd tow your car; I didn't know that.

He & his wife invited me over one night, and he knew I always backed in, almost everywhere. He was down stairs when he heard me come in, and by the time I parked he said- "They'll tow your car if you leave it parked like that. They want head's in parking only..." I could not believe a complex would be so......****.

I don't know what the big-deal is, but parking at an apartment complex is a good way to get your car towed..

My apartment complex sent me a letter last week saying my parking lease is now invalid (even though it was signed by them and myself to go until February of next year). They're saying I need to sign a new lease and the new parking spot will be an extra $25 per month (I already pay $95).

I told them they were out of their mind and had no legal stance to render my signed lease invalid. They then left me another note saying any vehicle in that parking spot would be towed starting noon the next day if I didn't sign a new lease.

I left a note on the dash saying I'd sue for grand theft auto among other things if my vehicle was touched. I don't think they could physically tow me out of that garage anyhow. I have a 4x4 supercrew and the exit/entrance to the garage is so tight, I have to fold in my mirror and I only have 2 inches of clearance above the truck. So it can be put on top of anything and lifting one end will most likely cause the top to be too tall.

Haha, lets hope it doesn't come to that. I don't think that I would be in a very good place (mentally) if that happened. I will writing them a letter this evening that my contract is....(have to look up my old contract law class notes for the 5 validity checks for a contract).

Then warn them that I will sue for ....(list of applicable things).

i hate the way they tow for everything. i went to go my truck at 1:30 in the mornin 30 minutes after they took it down. they still wanted to charge full price!!! the owner got made because i woke him up, he was "asleep in his motorhome" haha i will get my revenge!! i will raise soo much damn hell at that apartment complex if i don't get a refund!!! i would get pissed if someone was parked in my spot, but where i got towed they weren't assigned. and there was plenty of non-visitor parking. i really loved the way he put the note on the that guy's car that is hilarious. just yesterday a girl was towed for parking "crooked" which is a load of bs. She on the other hand does not care about her car and she is gonna leave it there till they let her have it for free. Her dad is calling the DA and the county clerk raisin lots of hell haha

One snowy evening many years ago I took one of my 5 ton trucks down town when i went to a movie. The truck was to long for the street parking spot, It was about 5 feet in to a taxi zone. When i came out from the movie it was gone. Had to laugh it was a city contract and the tow charge was around $12.00. To tow that truck they had to call in a 5 ton wrecker and those are just not avaible axcept on call. It was less than 50 cents a foot.

I grew up in the country and will be moving back out there as soon as my finals semester at college is done. I can't take this crap down here. Everything is either A) too small to park in or B) hop skip and jump away from being towed C) in the ghetto where it's about to be stolen. Thank goodness the parents still live out in the country and I can go out there to relax on random weekends.

Side note: I go to see my lawyer today about this parking deal I'm having.

I am not gonna go down with out a fight! The apts are tellin me and my gf that (excess parking) we have to park at the University arena. I e-mailed the DPS chief. He e-mailed the coordinator at the arena. The coordinator e-mailed me back the same day

"Mr. Trevino, My name is Mr. Roe and I oversee the athletic facilities at Baylor. I am interested in learning more about the parking dilemma the Apts. are apparently beginning to initiate. I may be reached at 645-3822 and I appreciate your concern. Thanks, Tom
