Does anyone here live near Ft Worth??
I have a job interview in Ft. Worth next week and I would like to know more about the area. What's there to do, what areas are good to live in, what areas should not be considered etc. If I take the job I will be working in west central Ft. Worth, so what are some good areas to look for a place to live? I plan on an apartment/rent house for the very short term while I decide where I will buy a house. If some of ya'll local folks can give me a heads up about the city I would greatly appreciate it.

The part you will be working in is a good place. The west side is probably the best. Depends on the amount of money you have to spend on a home and what you want. I would go with one of the smaller suburbs right outside the city. You just have to come look at what is available and see what you like. Lots of growth here with new homes going up all over the place.
I looked up the address of the company and they are just east of the Naval Air station. So what communities are worth looking at, right now I am most concerned with finding an apartment. Once/if I get down there I will then have more time to look at all of the areas. What about traffic, which roads are to be avoided? I assume that east of Ft. Worth will be more crowded for the morning and evening commute, am I right. Some traffic does not bother me, I have driven in the worst that Paris and London can muster. I just don't want to spend 1 hour every morning to go 5 miles. Thanks for the input.

You might want to look in the Keller area for an apartment, it is a little nicer. Also, East, North, and South are busy areas for Ft Worth. Traffic wont be as bad as Dallas, but there will be some on loop 820(you'll eventually get this major catastrophe of a highway). all in all, Ft Worth is a nice place to live. Welcome to TX
I am just south of Fort Worth, near Burleson. Have several neighbors that work at Lockheed which is next to the airbase. I would look for an apartment near Camp Bowie(that is a street) in west fort Worth. Then for a home, I would look at buying near Aledo or Weatherford, or maybe out toward Grandbury. All are easy drives to west side. Fort Worth is a great city, fun place to live. More laid back than Dallas yet plenty to see and do and close enough to Dallas to go over if there is a need. Hope it works out for you.
BTW, you will be safe from Jamzwayne, he is about an hour and a half away in Athens.

I'm in Fort Worth on the Northeast side (where Ft. Worth runs into Heritage Trace and Watauga/Haltom City/North Richland Hills/Keller/HEB)
Specifically I'm near the Fossil Creek golf course. I love the Fossil Creek area and have bought a house in the Park Glen neighborhood. I think I'm going to love it. If the wife and I had 200,000 to spend on a house, we would certainly be in Keller or Heritage Trace.
Either Benbrook (Southwest) or Keller/N Richland Hills (NE side) are the best bet for you. Out of those two, Benbrook probably has less traffic in the area. My wife works in Keller and I downtown, so it was more convenient for us to live in the Northeast. Just stay away from Central and Southeast. I've heard that the neighborhoods around Lake Worth are nice, but I've heard some VERY bad stories about people living in the Far West area. I think I heard that they're re-zoning low income out to the west, so crime is on the rise out in that area. 76131 in the areas around the lake, 76137 above Basswood Blvd, 76248, above Heritage Trace Pkwy, and Benbrook (??) are your best bets.
Oh, and there is PLENTY to do in Ft. Worth - if you don't think there's much, you're looking for an excuse to go to Dallas....which you can always do. Downtown Ft. Worth and the Stockyards are awesome. One of the best things I like about living in Ft. Worth is knowing that I can go VISIT Dallas anytime I want, but yet know that I can return back to a more quaint city at the end of the day.

Welcome; you'll love the area...
When I first moved here; people were gettign Killed in Fort Worth almost every night; more than even in Dallas. (1997)
But, in the last 3-5 years, we hardly ever hear of anything happening in Fort Worth. Looks like the police chief got all that BS under control.
Downtown Fort Worth is really nice- as far as night life goes... Nicer than Dallas- although it pains me to say that...
I suggest an apartment in North Richland Hills, or in the HEB area (Hurst, Euless, Bedford) Easy drive to Fort Worth. A lot of fols are moving to Justin, TX but that's up 35. If 35W in Ft Worth is anything like 35E in Dallas, you might not want to move north of Fort Worth; especially if your work starts and ends between 7 AM and 6 PM.

Thanks, I will look on the net for some apartments in these areas and get an idea of where to look and how much to spend when I go there next week. If everything works out I might be there in a couple of weeks.
