downloads

First of all, I finally found someone who has high speed internet for my home. (they told me it is high speed, he said it was 8 megs, whatever the heck that means).

Is that fast? or did i get ripped off for 45 bucks a month?
It gets installed saturday.

I want to start downloading music and burning them onto a cd.
I have a couple questions

1. What site do you guys use to download music? is there a monthly fee?
2. how hard is it to convert the downloads into mp3 files, (or is this even possible?) that way i can put the mp3 player in my truck to use!

thanks for you help

8 Megs is fast. I work for Road Runner and 8 Megs is our Premium service. Regular RR is at 5Megs.

All *legal* places to download music charge a small fee as far as I know. Napster and iTunes are probably the most popular but I don't think iTunes is MP3, its AAC or something....may not play in a regular MP3 player, I don't know.

All files from Napster and most other places come in MP3 format already.

when i originally was looking for internet, i went to their website and typed in my address and phone number and they said it was unnavailable. then i got dial up and it was a freakin joke! i could take a nap inbetween pages and it would still not be loaded. so i decided to go on a high speed internet hunt, and i just called them up and it was available. weird huh.

It is not legal to download any copyrighted material via any service without permission from the copyright holder. Limewire and its ilk thirve on advertising revenue generated by turning a blind eye to copyright infringement. (not to say that the treatment of artists by record companies is anything less than treacherous but that is for another thread)

There are legal services and my personal choice is Itunes. Their country music selection is a little anemic though. Itune downloads can be burned as mp3s from the software and yes almost all the songs found on the other services are already in mp3 formats.

No, not legal, yes to MP3's, but I quit using it, because so many people (record companies I'm sure helped) were offering crappy files or songs under different titles, etc...

No I believe that is covered by the 28th amendment...

"No blood no foul"

Now how you committed the acts is quite significant.

Actually it isn't (at least as far as I know). However it does provide the vehicle for illegal activity.

OK . . . downloading music from Limewire, without paying for it, is illegal.

Better?
