Brakes are for pu$$ies!
In a race someone would be drafting you to try to sling shot off your draft to try and take you in the turn. If you slam on your brakes in the corners, that causes the drafting car behind you to slam into your rear end, spinning you out and your now off the track. 4" at 120+ mph is not enogh reaction time for such foolishness. Plus if you miss your timing by +.025 of a second then you spin out on your own. If the drafting car slams on thier brakes to try and keep form hitting you, then the car behind them will smack them, pushing them into you anyway and then you are both off the track.
That type of driving is how multi car accidents happen. Drive safe and save your equipment and your life, as well as everyone elses on the track. Don't slam on your brakes!
It might be fun, but if you are working on perfecting your driving then practice makes perfect. BUT practicing the wrong way makes a bad habit. It only takes 14 times of doing something in repitition to become a habit. But if you develop a bad habit then it takes 120 times of doing it right to correct it. Then it still may always come back to haunt you when you least expect it. Ussually when something goes wrong and you panic. That's not the time to revert to a bad habit.
1/2 life, that is all the reasons why your instructor told you that so I agree with him/her. Besides maintaing a high average speed gives you a faster lap time anyway.
