I'm looking for some advice on pellet stoves. With the cost of heating prices going up I'm thiking about alternative fuel source. I have a fireplace with an old shrauder insert. I'm thinking about removeing this and replaceing with a pellet stove. Anyone have any experience with pellet stoves? Sure apperciate any advice.

I dont have one but several people that I know tha tdo have tehm LOVE them. My neighbor got rid of his wood burning fireplace 2 years ago for one and he says, "It's great! I carry my wood in by the bag now and I dont have to go cut it, or split it. I also dont have wood chips, bark, or ashes in the house any more during the winter also I dont have to deal with the bugs anymore."
They do put out a lot of heat and it seems to be a more even heat than wood too. Yet it's still a dry heat like wood.

this is my 2nd pellet stove in 10 yrs, lost the first one in the Isabel flood 2 yrs ago. the new one is a whitfield, you dump a 40# bag of pellets in the hopper (bout $3.25) hit the auto start or manually start it and woop dere it iz. It is supplemental heating to the heatpump which doesnt get very warm but im used to it. I love my stove wouldnt be without it.

We have a pellet stove and they are absolutely great. So much more convenient than wood stoves and it can easily heat the entire house. Matt is right, they do seem to put out more heat than a wood stove. You pour a bag of pellets into the hopper, set the thermostat and the stove does all the work. No more getting up to a chilly house in the morning because you forgot to throw a log on before you went to bed! I highly recommend one

Before you go out and buy a pellet stove though, you do know that you can buy pellet stove fireplace inserts don't you? That way you just have to take out your wood insert and replace it with a pellet one.
