Paintball: Woods vs. Speed ball...

Well, the title explains itself. Having done both but with roots in woodsball, I gotta say speedball was a let down. You rip through 2,000 rounds in no time, little element of surprise and with the rules and the ghey refs on the field what little fun it could be it taken away by them. I've watched paintball tourney's on the moving picture box and just can't get into it. I don't see the skill... a decent team with fast fingers and half a brain is all you need to dominate... oh, and corporate sponsors. The ladder being the most important...

Let the debate begin! What on earth do you speed player see in it?! run, duck, shoot. Run, duck, shoot. No thrill. I don't get it. Help me.

WOODS!!!!!

I cant afford to play speed ball...and when we play, the beer is a flowing, and speed just aint in the equation when I am drinking(except for how fast I put them away)...seriously, we have a group at work of about 10-15 people who try to go out once a month and play woods, but sometimes we take a break during our texas summer(just too dang hot). I have also watched sppedball on the OLN channel, and a case of paint for 1 minute of playing just doesnt seem fun.

Speedball is all about angles, teamwork and well...*****. I played speedball with some coworkers, that were clueless. It was fun, but not a blast.

I enjoy playing on outdoor fields. Ones with man made objects to hide behind. Ive never really gotten a big game together with out going to one of our outdoor fields so we always have the (gh3y) refs, but they do try and keep people honets. But I love climbing hills, flanking, ambushing. Its great stuff. Unfortunatly I dont go enough now to justify buying a really good marker. And its too fustrating to go with my spyder just to watch the ***** curve after 50m or the ***** break when they hit a little leaf. I hate seeing a guy creeping across the canyon and thinking..."If I only had my M1A"...

I think this thread could use a story though...

Me and my "squad" were climbing up a pretty steep hill (desert terrain, dry brush and joshua trees). I was point with my good friend behind me. We were about half way up when a 'enemy' jumped up from some kinda hole about 5m infront of me. I raised my marker and pulled the trigger....nothing. I had it on safe so it wouldnt go off if I slipped while climbing (it was one of my first times out). Before the guy could take a shot at me I fell and spun around onto my back lying against the ground as I watch 5 (or so) paint ***** go through the air right were I was standing a second ago. Releved to be out of his line of fire, I turned to the "squad" to let them know the situation. Standing straight up, almost in shock, was my good friend with paint all over his face mask. It seems he saw me raise my marker and ran to see if I needed back up. As he began the walk of shame back to the waiting area we flanked and 'killed' the guy. I learned my leason, and felt horrible that my stupidity got my friend 'killed'. Gosh I miss paintball.

Fatman66 brought up a good point in the other pb thread. Said fatties don't like speedball. Last time I played speedball was with bunch of skinny short bastards that talked smack before the first game about how I was going to be an easy target. Many games later they revoked their comments as I had lit nearly all of them up on the field... it was like shooting fish in a barrel with the close confines of a speedball field. Poor bastards didn't stand a chance.

So for me it's not the running (I'm still somewhat quick for a big lumbering dolt) but the lack of territory and excitement...

We do a lot of tunning in woodsball also...getting from one form of cover to the next, advancing our position to get the target. Also, a lot of crawling and ducking and dodging..to me woodsball is where the real sport is, not shooting a case of paint a game. That isnt exciting, it is expensive

are we talking true speedball or just indoor paintball?

true speedball is in a very small room and is just a BS way for field operators to sell more paint.

My vote is for woodsball - although I've never played speedball...It just doesn't look to be as entertaining.

True speedball. I think I would dig indoor paintball if it was done in a large abandon office building, shopping mall, etc...

Finally!!! A speedballer! Its wild since most of the pb boards are soooooo bias and pro-speedball. Guess the Ford crowd just likes to play in the woods. I'll give you the fast pace tempo of sb.. but I've come across even more retards there than in the woods. It may be close though... retards are everywhere!

we have a few nice indoor fields in Toronto. One in particular has buildings, sniper towers etc in it. Not bad if you need a fix in the winter.
