Proud to be a REDNECK!

We have enjoyed the redneck jokes for years. It's time to take a reflective look at the core beliefs of a culture that values home, family,

country and God. If I had to stand before a dozen terrorists who threaten my life, I'd choose a half dozen or so rednecks to back me up. Tire irons, squirrel guns (or in Texas...deer rifles) and grit -- that's what rednecks are made of. I hope I am one of those. If you feel the same, pass this on to your redneck friends.

Ya'll know who ya' are...

You might be a Redneck if:

1. It never occurred to you to be offended by the phrase, "One nation, under God."

2. You've never protested about seeing the 10 Commandments posted in public places.

3. You still say "Christmas" instead of "Winter Festival".

4. You remove your hat and bow your head when anyone prays.

5. You stand and place your hand over your heart when they play our National Anthem.

6. You treat Viet Nam vets with great respect, and always have.

7. You've never burned an American flag, but would kick someone's BUTT that did.

8. You know what you believe and you aren't afraid to say so, no matter who is listening.

9 You respect your elders and expect your kids to do the same.

10. You'd give your last dollar to a friend.

If you got this email from me, it is because I believe that you, like me, have just enough Red Neck in you to have the same beliefs as those talked about above.

God Bless the USA!

That's pretty weak. Those 10 points apply to anyone that was raised properly in a good home with good parents. WTF does any of that stuff have to do with Rednecks?!

The term originated in reference to agricultural workers, alluding to how the back of a person's neck will be burned by the sun if he works long hours in the fields.

Good post L
It is just good to see that D is feeling normal again. He had me worried for a while. He was actually nice to some guys who had some fairly dumba$$ed posts. I told him he was getting too civil, looks as if he recovered.

Hey man...

I lived in Hilton Head for about a year. I worked at one of the two Harris Teeters. I grew up in Chucktown, though. I miss it sometimes.

PS- There ain't nuthin' wrong with bein' a Redneck... I'm one. But I'm not "White Trash".

The popular etymology says that the term derives from such individuals having a red neck caused by working outdoors in the sunlight over the course of their lifetime. The effect of decades of direct sunlight on the exposed skin of the back of the neck not only reddens fair skin, but renders it leathery and tough, and typically very wrinkled by late middle age. Another popular theory stems from the use of red bandanas tied around the neck to signify union affiliation during the violent clashes between United Mine Workers and owners between 1910 and 1920.

Some historians claim that the term redneck originated in 17th century Virginia, when indentured servants were sunburnt while tending plantation crops.

An alternative origin of the term comes from Scotland. In Scotland, the National Covenant and The Solemn League and Covenant (a.k.a. Covenanters) signed documents stating that Scotland desired a Presbyterian Church Government, and rejected the Church of England as their official church.

Many of the Covenanters Signed these documents using their own blood, and many in the movement began wearing red pieces of cloth around their neck to signify their position to the public. They were referred to as Rednecks. Many of the early inhabitants of the US South were of Scottish Descent, and according to this theory, this term was applied to many of the southern Scottish immigrants early on, eventually changing into the term we know today.

Apparently I'm not that smert. I can't tie normal, well raised human behavior with slack jawed yokles. I'm sure rednecks are loyal and all that other crap, but to say hillbillies are the most patriotic and loyal folks is just plain crazy. You might as well say "If I were at a local park confronted with the local high school basketball team that threatens to take over my court, I'd want a ½ dozen or so tall brothas on my side". WTF?!
